Still one of my top three books. No idea what the others would be. Perhaps still the Lord of the Rings which is a bit shameful but FUCK EVERYONE and then I dunno the first three-quarters of the Boat of a Million Years by Poul Anderson. (The bits in the future are total arse-dribble. I like to think that's because they're being imagined by Hanno and a Phoenician from 1000BC would be hard-pressed to come up with anything half-decent.)
I always quite liked this one. A mixture of sex appeal and unalloyed demonic terror.

I can skip whole books of the Lord of the Rings and not miss anything important. Stephen King's always* had the philosophy that it's not the ending that counts but the getting there, which is fortunate because the endings of his books often suck.
* He probably first started saying this after people pointed out that the ending the Dark Tower sucked shit. It did.
