# haha, maybe
I love it when people get all uppity about the use of 'gate' at the end of a new scandal.
'wah wah, watergate wasn't about water - people are using language all wrong'

# Yes, more of this sort of thing!
I very much enjoyed the Andrew Mitchell/policeman affair being dubbed "Gategate"

# Ah, I missed that.
I suppose people getting themselves in a tizz about that could be called gategategate.

# the gruaniad had "unishambles" as a headline recently which was a nice play on
omnishambles eh?

# what about Margate
the mother of all conspiracies.

# It's more because it's lazy.
I just think that if you're paid to write for a living, then try and avoid the worst of the cliches.

# or else it would be clichegate
and then where would you be, eh? at the gate, that's where, being shown the way out!

or something.

# It's just shorthand.
Instead of 'the jimmy savile record-breaking amounts of child abuse scandal' it's easier to say 'jimgate'. Not that anyone does yet.
More importantly, it annoys other people who have nothing better to do with their time than point out that the watergate scandal was in no way related to water. Just in case I didn't already know.

# But what would they call it if there was to occur a scandal related to water?
