there's really any advantage to using Firefox and Thunderbird over Explorer and Outlook? Is it just so everybody can go 'ohh get her!' or is there some profound advantage? What about Netscape? Just upgraded/downgraded/sidegraded to Firefox and all I can see is that the icons are slightly less well drawn.
TW averted! Have something creepy.

It's generally more secure. Not 100%, but better than IE.
Well, there are less exploits for it, though that may be because IE is still in a majority

doesn't use ActiveX, which is the main thing that makes IE so insecure.

but then Flash and all the other add-ons stop working, because that's how IE handles plugins. So it kind of defeats the object of using the browser.

but just set the controls to: prompt and then if you trust the source clik ok

Yep. Face it, IE is fucked security-wise, and if you want to use it securely it becomes a full-time worry and a constant hassle. Surely it's better just to use a secure browser? Just my opinion.

Thunderbird doesn't seem worth it though tbh.
If you don't like the way FF looks take a peek at this: homepage.ntlworld.com/fenrisuk/images/ScreenShot1.jpg you can customise it quite nicely.
Tabbed web browsing by itself makes it worthwhile, takes a little while to tweak FF how you want it but def worth the switch and a lot more secure.

I actually withdrew my listing there last week not that you fuckers will believe me.
In my defense I went out with a few people that I met on there and they were really cool, especially compared to the psychos I managed to pick up in real life around the same time.

it's probably better than shouting drunkenly into a girl's ear in a nightclub.
One of the most (conventionally) attractive girls I have ever been out I met on there. Unfortunately while she was a lovely lass she wasn't the sharpest tool in the box and drank lambrini so I had to do the honourable thing :/

ctrl+t opens a new tab, meaning you got all the sites open in one instance of the browser. keeps your taskbar clean.

from white.sakura.ne.jp/~piro/xul/_tabextensions.html.en#download
if you've just downloaded the newest firefox it will tell you that it doesn't trust the site to install extensions but you can easily change that (assuming you want to install something from a random website recommended by an anonymous name on a message board :))
You can then tweak all sorts of settings to do with tabbed browsing. For example I have middle click set up to open tabs in the background. This means that when I go to a news page I can middle click on all the interesting headlines and by the time I start reading they've all loaded.

Type ahead highlights any word you type in (initially only links) and is very very cool for long pages. DOM explorer allows you to turn off bits and bobs of the page, in case the developer was too much of a cnut not to think about people who want to print pages.
