# I just copped that speed test thing on the frontpage..
But couldn't get it working.
Then I remembered that I wrote one years back.
You need cookies and all that on btw.

Also, I'm up to user 796 on the b3ta members profile list. If someone else has already done this tell me now so I can stop! :)

# Is this quick?
Connection speed = 123456789 KBits/sec (12345678.90 KBytes/sec )
what's the b3ta profiles member page?
(, Mon 6 Jan 2003, 15:26, archived)
# Dunno
Connection speed = 20,343,200 KBits/sec (2,483.30 KBytes/sec )

thought I could only get half that. Woo.

# I hate to be mr pedantic

but never get speed mixed up with bandwidth.

"Never underestimate the bandwidth of a station wagon filled with tapes."
(, Mon 6 Jan 2003, 15:29, archived)
# Tis true...
The speed shown there is the transfer at that moment between your browser and my server. It will change slightly every time. But not by too much I reckon. Will depend on how much pron yer downloading at the same time too :)

# har, you're hosted at Globix
I used to work for them.

They have a good network.

*proud*

# Globix are great
excpet when the machines fuck up and we have to manually restart em. Then we need to wait about a day to get into the building. Which aint fun really.
(, Mon 6 Jan 2003, 15:36, archived)
# you need a remote finger

so what does this script actually *do* to get the bandwidth? Surely not measuring latency?
(, Mon 6 Jan 2003, 15:39, archived)
# Sends data to your browser and waits for the response..
That's about it.. Nothing clever really.
(, Mon 6 Jan 2003, 15:45, archived)
# hmm
it's people like you wot give people like me a hard time :-)

"but this guy's webpage says my bandwidth is only 30k"

o well, they'll never stop phoning until I change careers.

# hah, mr badger

You're posting a lot at the moment. Jobless?

# That's all I coded in at the time..
And I'm not gonna change it now :)

Anyhow, the browser is the one that does the telling, so it could be your browser that's doing the dirty :)
