# haha
oh ok, i thought it might be an issue with your codez ;)

one feature i've often wondered why we don't have and i don't know how much people would use it
is some kind of box or button to do the (img src=) stuff in the posting page

besides that, things seem to be in pretty good order

# good question...
but my gut reaction is "find the URL and paste it into this box" is still going to be tricky for someone who doesn't know basic HTML.

# I *think* that's a problem with web-caches
and I'm suspect that most of the site has always been affected as well.

This is really hard to test and fix until someone can reliably reproduce the problem, though...

# Could you fix
the preview that messes up when you post animated gifs?

edit: or the option to disable it?
(, Sat 28 Oct 2006, 15:03, archived)
# Actually, I don't know about that problem
Could you explain it a bit more?

(And see if it's still not working quite right? I stuck in some changes yesterday which might well have fixed it.)
(, Sat 28 Oct 2006, 15:12, archived)
# oh I`ve seen that
it`s the live preview as you enter the URL and it starts trying to download everything as you type (I don`t C+P them usually) and it starts flashing like mad - sometimes flicks between the firefox redex (the pizza thing) and the image rapidly until you hit post, even though you`ve completed the URL

might just be something in firefox.. dunno
(, Sat 28 Oct 2006, 15:18, archived)
# it shouldn't update *while* you're typing now
just while you're taking a break. And then only once. So it might be fixed now.

(And I missed a point in Caro's original post -- livepreview is an option in your profile, and even defaults to disabled I think?)

EDIT: okay, it's better than it used to be, but it can still update while you type. Need a better fix, I guess...
(, Sat 28 Oct 2006, 15:20, archived)
# i don't know if i'm having the same problem.
but about half way through posting gifs, preview kind of flashes and flickers, like it doesn't seem to know what's going on, this continues until you hit 'post this message' and it appears on the board all loverly. i can't recall it happening when i was running IE but in firefox it happens.

edit/i wish my typing was quicker cos in the time this took to write, an answer appeared.

# quick reply to be AJAX-ified
so you can post a load of replies without refreshing the board

dunno if that would just become confusing though
(, Sat 28 Oct 2006, 15:04, archived)
# I've been thinking about this for a bit
I just added the first ajaxy bit here and thought "hmm... that was easy... wonder what else we could use it for..."

But for there to be any point to this, you'd have to refresh just that one thread, rather than the whole page. And remember not to refresh if the thread had any reply boxes open. And fix up the zebra stripes afterwards too. And try to find some heuristic for when to refresh the whole page anyway. So tricky, but certainly doable.
(, Sat 28 Oct 2006, 15:18, archived)
# heh wasn`t thinking of anything that fancy!
just posting the reply via ajax and leaving the comment boxes visible on the screen, so you could rattle out a few replies without grabbing a full board refresh each time

.. hit refresh and everything`s back to normal

edit: I guess what I`m getting at is that quick reply isn`t that quick :) quick edit would also be good

/fussy bastard

# how about a "mobile" option
I`ve been in the pub having a pint in town and tried to read the board, but my phone goes "ooh! ooh! I`ve gone all gay and can`t do that"

.. maybe just displays most recent 2/4/5 threads instead, so it`ll fit in the phone`s teeny memory
(, Sat 28 Oct 2006, 15:10, archived)
#
hmm... maybe add 'threads' and 'recurse' options to the index?
(, Sat 28 Oct 2006, 15:35, archived)
# wouldn`t want to be giving you too much work :)
I think (with my phone anyway) it`s just that it can`t handle the size of the data being pushed down
maybe even showing 1 thread at a time with a sort of <- left ->right extra navigation at the top for skipping between threads

(, Sat 28 Oct 2006, 15:38, archived)
# Oooh,
can we have the 'You are logged in on x other computers' bit back please, under the Log Out Other Sessions button? I already know I'm logged in on a few computers, but it's nice to know there's no extra ones I don't know about.
(, Sat 28 Oct 2006, 15:13, archived)
# added to the list
needs more changes than you might suspect for the figure to be accurate, though. (Which is why I pulled it...)

What I want to know, as a frequent-and-occasionally-forgetful internet cafe user, is why I have never seen a single other website with this feature?

It's comforting to know it's there.

I'll ask around first to see if this was a design feature, though.

(mm... probably shouldn't allow https in img tags, though, to keep browser warning from self-signed certs down.)
