# what's wrong with a pdf?
can't you convert it?

(, Fri 27 Apr 2007, 15:39, archived)
# i design things in CAD format
so when i ask for CAD format, (which can be changed in AutoCAD) and they send me PDF, (which is basically a picture as you will know) i cant change it so its of absolute NO use at all to me. so i have to draw up huge buildings in CAD when they could/should have sent it me in fucking CAD. useless fucking bastards.

# but pdf is for emails isn't it?
/i carved my own stirring spoon - out of a bigger spoon
(, Fri 27 Apr 2007, 15:44, archived)
# yes but you can send CAD files
in emails. and asking for CAD and getting PDF gets me more mad than hitler receiving his gas bill.

# this stirring stick works wonders! :)

# not getting what you asked for sucks
but they are editable!

# I imagine
it may well be someone that, when asked for some sort of vector based image, or just something useful
sends over a 10kb gif image of a diagram with a message, all in capitals "I HOEP THIS IS WHATYOU WERE LOOKING FOR"

silly chumps

# we do that so you can't rip-off our designs

# you can open PDFs in illustrator
then convert to CAD, if that helps?

(, Fri 27 Apr 2007, 15:41, archived)
# you cant edit it though
basically PDF's are of no use to me.

as a design engineer
(, Fri 27 Apr 2007, 15:43, archived)
# yes you can edit it
i use them every day
you're probably using adobe reader and not acrobat
(, Fri 27 Apr 2007, 15:47, archived)
# do you use AutoCAD?
our PDF's are adobe yes. we receive them in Adobe and they 100% cannot be converted to CAD format.

how about a cup of tea and a nice sitdown

# no no no
open illustrator
open PDF using illustrator
text will be editable
shapes will be vectorised
i have been editing PDFs for years now
(, Fri 27 Apr 2007, 15:56, archived)
# can you download illustrator for free?
Edit: this cannot be edited in CAD format once received in PDF.

# i think you're right
it *can* however be edited in MS paint once posted on b3ta in jpg format

please note: cdc is slightly less cd than the average cdc on account of the fact that the original image was so precise. it rubbed off on me

the style, not the cdc, that would be messy

# I get the same from architects
who are trying to keep their stuff secure. I think they're worried I'll steal their blocks.

They don't seem to realise I can't design flood defences without the DWG, hence they won't get planning permission.

*sexes hard*

and i design safety equipment so mistakes = death = me sacked.

That happens to me EVERY bloody day! Annoying in the extreme! I draw plans.
"Why would I want a PICTURE of your crappy plan", I usually ask myself.....

I call them CADspazzes. To their effin faces. PDF scumbuckets!!! :-)
(, Fri 27 Apr 2007, 15:53, archived)
# yay!!!
it is so annoying! do you like my animation? does it portray the anger which ensues receiveing in PDF format?
(, Fri 27 Apr 2007, 16:07, archived)
# It does for me.
The only thing I can do with a .pdf is to convert it to a jpeg, then insert it into the drawing and scale it up to proper size and trace it.

Pain in the ass, it is.

Next time they send you a .pdf, reply and send them goatse.
