Possibly THE single most charismatic speaker of the 20th century. Very few people have ever made so much happen.
To be honest we were bloody lucky to have won. If the silly prick hadn't invaded Russia we'd be Nazis now.
Manley does not support or endorse Hitler in any way. Manley accepts and is repulsed by the holocaust. Manley is not a Nazi. Manley merely believes that Hitler was very good at making people love him and do what he wanted.
He also had some damned fine looking (and only looking, the premise for them was, indeed, abhorrent) military displays. Few have ever had such super looking parades.

they were always sneaking up and spraying it on him when he wasn't looking

just the fact that he chose to fight on all fronts and was unaware of what it meant to march on Stalingrad in winter. You have to concede that he was an egomaniacal narcissist with a secret inferiority complex. This led him to make a multitude of bad decisions which led to his troops ( the best trained and equipped forces in the world at the time ) to being unable to hold out in all theatres.
Also as to his charisma? Germany was up to it's forehead in shit. The populace would have turned to any man on earth that made the same promises as Hitler no matter how false they turned out to be. He just took advantage of a shit situation to make people believe he could make it better.

Have you ever seen him orating - the man was brilliant at propaganda. World fucking class.

and as captain of the school debating class it looked more like ranting to me. Shouting and empty promises to a people short on hope.

the mass public he was trying to convince wouldn't have been as impressed by a 'presenting your case' school debate type approach. he brilliantly understood the psychology of speaking to crowds and cynically used that to his advantage
of course, he was a despicable cunt, which makes it rather unfortunate that he was so good at it

I abhor what he was doing, but have to admire the way he went about it. His ends were appalling, but his means to achieve them were perfectly matched to the result he desired.
Everyone always assumes that Hitler was shit at everything and evil and crap. The reality is that a little ugly man bloody nearly managed to conquer the whole world. Yes he was a complete cunt and I am obviously fucking glad that he didn't succeed, but I can't fault his public demonstrations.

Why is it one feels the need to add caveats when discussing nazis - I can discuss racism with Mr H. with less desire to hide behind disclaimers.

I think you fail to see my point. Yes he was a manipulator, yes he understood what needed to be said in order to elevate himself but at the end of the day his audience were already pliable and beaten. He was the one that took the opportunity, all I'm saying is he was not special, he was just the one that took the chance. He was undoubtedly the wrong person no matter how much he believed in his country. He was never going to lead his country to better things due to his mental state. He'd have lasted longer staying only in the political arena but a man who is mentally unstable, narcissistic and borderline schizophrenic is always going to fuck it up. Stick Parkinson's and syphilis on top of that in later years means he was as potty as your great aunt fanny.

i agree he was unstable and probably prone to balls it up at some point once in power.
but in terms of the populace being beaten already, they were surely then receptive to ideas that lots of people tried to sway them on, not just his, yet he was the one who won their support. there was probably a bit of luck there, yes, and it needed a desperate population in the first place to countenance such 'out there' ideas, but i think he was more successful in taking advantage of people than almost anyone else would have been in the same situation
