# Sigh.™ the weekend is over.......
Went to the Tate modern at the weekend.......what a load of bollocks.
-- Worse than the 'art' are the descriptions.

I have been inspired and name this piece
'L'homage de Tron'
The Guardian writes:
'An exciting piece of work using the gif format to explore the relationshiop between line and motion, the dynamic fluidity is a stroke of genius.'

# that is cool
were the slides still there?
/loves a bit of conceptual art
(, Tue 8 May 2007, 15:16, archived)
# nah,
they closed a couple of weeks ago
(, Tue 8 May 2007, 15:17, archived)
# All that was there was
Gilbert and George which I didnt pay to see and a load of free exhibits....

Although even trying to be open minded.... it was still bollocks.
I see better stuff on this board day in day out.

# I fucking hate those pretentious little shitbag bastards
Gilbert and George.

# This
When i went there was a bit of paper that they had spilt their dinner on being shown?!
(, Tue 8 May 2007, 15:31, archived)
# i find some conceptual stuff enthralling
i have no art education to speak of
but some of it blows me away
i like anish kapoor and anthony gormley especially

but yes, a lot of it is utter wank
(, Tue 8 May 2007, 15:20, archived)
# To be honest...
I would have respect for art that takes talent to produce.... but most of the stuff I saw was utter quim dribble......hence why they need to add the lengthy descriptions to justify it.

I don't particularly like the old masters paintings, but can appreciate the skill and time to produce them...... same can't be said for the shit in the tate modern.
(, Tue 8 May 2007, 15:23, archived)
# it's not always about skill though
sometimes it's about proccess and ideas

you could paint a lovely water colour of someone's face
but why? when you can just take a photo?

some art isn't about the final piece, but more the journey itself
oh, and some of it is pretentious toss....

# i quite like the guy who did 'shed, boat, shed'
the other year, but mainly because i like the concept and the fact that he sailed it all the way down the danube.
(, Tue 8 May 2007, 15:28, archived)
# if, in fact, he did
there are some that doubt it
(, Tue 8 May 2007, 15:30, archived)
# Anybody remember who made
the machine that replicated the digestion process by turning food into shit and
sold the shit in jars?
I quite liked the idea of that piece.
(, Tue 8 May 2007, 15:34, archived)
# yeah
Belgian.
Ah - found it.

# it depends how you look at it
modern art developed as a reaction to traditional painting being superceded by photography and motion pictures. and abstract sculpture as a rejection of traditional constraints. some of the people producing that quim dribble have amazing draughtsman skills, but they choose to express themselves in a different way

often they will fail to connect with their audience, but when it works, it's great

# U R GAI LOL

edit: I REALLY like Rachael Whiteread's stuff
(, Tue 8 May 2007, 15:31, archived)
# some of her stuff is cool
but i just wish she'd do something less the same
(, Tue 8 May 2007, 15:38, archived)
# the new anthony gormley thing
opens in london next week, at the hayward - it's going to be awesome!
(, Tue 8 May 2007, 16:17, archived)
# you should
have gone when the slides were there, they were really good! And did you see the room with blackboards and chalk drawings showing the story of a shipwreck - that was really good too, though might not be there anymore

and nice gif, by the way

# ^THIS^

it's all wank.

i call this 'LOLLERSROFLCOPTOR'

:P

and i ask £20,000 for it.

# The art isn't in what you create these days
it's how you justify it as 'art'
(, Tue 8 May 2007, 15:23, archived)
# just like when i was back at uni.

you could creat total gash as long as you could bullshit.

where as technical merit accounted for very little.

cunts.

# I tell you what
if I ever have the misfortune to shit the bed again I'll have the Mrs right on the phone to the Tate.
(, Tue 8 May 2007, 15:26, archived)
# the artists don't really set the price
the numpties with all the cash in our society do

can you knock someone for doing what they like
and robbing the rich at the same time?
(, Tue 8 May 2007, 15:23, archived)
# i like breaking and entering rich peoples houses in the name of art
yet the law see it differently.
(, Tue 8 May 2007, 15:26, archived)
# fuck them
and their law
(, Tue 8 May 2007, 15:34, archived)
# fuck yeah!
stick it to the man!
(, Tue 8 May 2007, 15:42, archived)
# This "modern art" stuff is wank.
Somebody could probably do a massive CDC and call it art.
