I've been experimenting with this idea

but it didn't quite work out

I like it more with a border around the tree

but the gradient effect is mostly lost here, mostly

Yosh! That's good.

i think
you should have a thinner outline

hmmm
I dunno about this, maybe lighter gradient colours

oh well, I will start bugging the board again with these once I've found out if it works somehow

Oh well :p
It's not half bad, but the line across the middle where the colours meet seems to stick out a bit too harshly

yeah, I think I need to try it with lighter colours
something like this

meh

That works quite well
Light colours win.

Nice idea
reduce the blurring to a height of about 5-10 pixels maybe
(

there is no blurring
just the gradients and two layers

Perhaps either lightening the back or the foreground.

or prehaps have the centre of the gradients offset a bit
(

yes, that would be wise
but actually, the experiment was to see what would happen if I used no offset
looks a bit gray and blurred

Woo!
I prefer this one! and I've had a similiar idea with a different subject for a while . . . it's only my lack of talent stopping me

Yeah
you could experiment making the shadow closer, sharper, and less opaque. I reckon it would pop the tree out more.
