even though i think it marks the simpsons out as being in their death throes
and the most recent episodes i've seen being a load of (admitedly rather amusing) nonsense
i do really want to see this film - even if it turns out to be rubbish

same here
Its one of those films that is it is mediocre, I will still think it's good. And if it's utterly crap, i'll still say it's not bad.

yeah
they have brilliant gag writers, the only way they can fuck it up is if the story is fucking rubbish

The usual way of fucking things like that up is spending too much time explaining back story that everyone already knows.
As long as they assume that pretty much everyone who goes to see it already knows the Simpsons, they should be ok.

i disagree
Matt Groening has wanted to make a Simpsons movie since season 3. They have never been able to until now. The continuing sale of Simpsons and Futurama DVD box sets has shown the studio that it may well be a winning idea - and it may well be the *studios* last gasp at getting cash out of the Simpsons before they pull it, but I think the Simpsons will be around for longetr, whatever the network.
Also, the current series - still 100% better than anything else in its genre on TV at the moment (and yes i HAVE seen Family Guy)
