# how spooky, I have just seen the trailer for the new AvP movie coming out
nicely, sir
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:04, archived)
# Tis awesome, is it not?
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:05, archived)
# it's.... ok
as trailers go. Not exactly awe inspiring stuff though,
although it's promised more blood and gore this time around, which doesn't
always make for a better movie...
Then again, I know nothing. I still prefer Alien to Aliens
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:06, archived)
# Alien is better than Aliens
much better... much much better.
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:07, archived)
# I still rate Cameron as a fantastic director
and if anyone in Hollywood has got any sense, they'll give the
Transformers sequel gig to him
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:08, archived)
# I agree.
we should run hollywood
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:09, archived)
# I think they were two entirely different styles of film
and both stand equally IMO, I enjoy both with equal measure
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:10, archived)
# watch out for splinters sitting up there on that fence ;)
/I love Aliens immensely, but Alien just edges it for me on direction.
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:12, archived)
# really?
if i'd watched it when it first came out, i would probably appreciate Alien more but, as it stands, i think Aliens is much better.
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:14, archived)
# Yup, Alien feels very close and claustrophobic
and it's supported by one of the most awesome casts of it's time.
Aliens did feel close and chilling in places, but went from small to big set pieces very quickly
(in my humble opinion anyway)
The extended version MORE than makes up for this fleeting direction though,
and makes for a much better film
(as indeed does the longer, uncut version of Alien 3, which introduces so much more, and is a cracking uncut film)
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:17, archived)
# Indeed.
Verily, you speak the truth.

The uncut version of 3 is good, is it?

*heads off to Play.com*
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:20, archived)
# aye, plays out the story a lot more
and a nice twist which plays back to Finchers original idea as to where the Alien comes from.
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:21, archived)
# Cool.
It'll be here tomorrow!

Thank god for express shipping!

Edit: Damn! Next week. :(
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:24, archived)
# its more like the book
as above, so out with the dog idea and back to the bovine, also there is a reference to it in the original cinema version, of the waste holding container that they want to burn the alien down from the pipes and capture it, but it was never in the film, is now back in there :D
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:54, archived)
# the guns in the hallway?
loved them. i'm a fan of Alien 3 as well, purely because i like the concept of going from a well-armoured, well-trained fighting unit to a colony of weapon-free religious zealots, yet having to face the same enemy.
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:22, archived)
# Aye, Alien 3 (aka Aliens vs Brian Glover) ;)
even though I'm the 'Aliens' generation (30) i still prefer the first, primarily for its cast and feel
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:23, archived)
# i like watching Veronica Cartwright freak out
but, apart from that, it just didn't do it for me. i like more action and blowing stuff up ;)
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:27, archived)
# hahaha, there is that, I suppose :)
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:34, archived)
# i always was
a girl who likes a big bang...:D
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:43, archived)
# I reckon 'Aliens' had some outstanding lines of script.
But the first one was a corker.

Mind you, I thought the *look* of the 3rd one was very good also.

Bit of a Fincher fan.
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:15, archived)
# seen the uncut version?
loved that version. shows the cinema release up for the cack it truly was. Dreadful editing
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:18, archived)
# The original script was something about a wooden planet, wasn't it?
Vincent (The Navigator) Ward wrote it?

# in the cinema release there is a fleeting shot of the animals which incubate the alien in Fincher's original idea
this was scrapped in favour of the 'dogburster' but the uncut extended version goes back to the original animal
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:24, archived)
# the big box set has a documentary all about that.
it's really funny because half the people are apologising for how crap it is and the other half are still really bitter about it after 20 years
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:26, archived)
# alien for the win. alien 3 for the bin
[edit]the directors cut is much better. the alien coming out of a cow should have made it a docile herbivore if you follow the gene borrowing logic of the other cut tho.
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:19, archived)
# Thing is...
...if you're in the mood for seeing a load of aliens being shot, it doesn't quite cut it. I think we can all agree that both are better than the travesties which followed!
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:19, archived)
# Part three survived (just) in my books,
given they changed the formula again from what had proceeded it, but Resurrection was jaded and sterile in my books, with little that was original. Which is why I'm looking forward to AvP 2, given it's set on earth. Oh and will have an 18 certificate, as someone pointed out above.
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:26, archived)
# it's a pity they killed off some great B-Movie actors in previous films really,
if they had a great plot/action, would be nice to have seen the likes of Brad Dourif, and Lance Henriksen in it, the latter was wasted in the first AvP
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:27, archived)
# Looking good, isn't it...?
Well, significantly better than the first one, anyhow. 18 certificate FTW!
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:06, archived)
# that may actually help it a bit, yeah
looks like they're sending in the facehuggers to populate an entire town for breeding, which
could be funky
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:08, archived)
# oooh - I saw the last one last night
is teh new one looking any good?
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:07, archived)
# I saw the first AvP
Wish I hadn't - was fookin awful!
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:08, archived)
# exceedingly poor
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:09, archived)
# I recorded it last night
I was going to watch it tonight.

Maybe I won't bother :¬|
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:10, archived)
# Seriously. Don't.
It's utter crap.
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:11, archived)
# ^this
indeed. 'twas a dreadful waste of film.
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:13, archived)
# Let's see
Good things:
It has Aliens in it.
It has Predators in it.

Bad things:
Everything else.
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:11, archived)
# It's 90 mins of fun if you want to watch a pure popcorn movie without a lot in it
enjoyable enough to watch once at least
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:13, archived)
# try here...
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:09, archived)
# many thanks
(, Tue 4 Sep 2007, 16:10, archived)
# the new one shows some promise
they've gone back to the biomechanical design used by cameron even using the same alien sounds aswell, same for the predators aswell more like the predator film versions, am looking forward to it :D
