A choice between a masterpiece in user interface which is accessible for all and more than adequate for the majority of computer users or what is essentially industrial equipment thrust on the mainstream and therefore alientates (or at least restricts) those without a degree in computer science?

NOT TRUE.
If you have two fingers on the touchpad while you click it's the same as a second mouse button and I've got a bluetoot mighty mouse which has a scroll sphere (that's right, a fucking sphere!) and squeezy bits!
