# really?
That's some crazy shit, i'd say he's only just behind the Beatles and LZ in terms of importance.
(, Fri 4 Jul 2008, 9:46, archived)
# certainly more important than fucking Kylie... and, to my mind at least, more than the Rolling Stones.
(, Fri 4 Jul 2008, 9:48, archived)
# yeah, def more important than the stones, although that's the sort of level he is at
I do think she's well worthy of the award tho
(, Fri 4 Jul 2008, 9:50, archived)
# ^agreed
and to be honest, I'd rate him well above the Beatles
(, Fri 4 Jul 2008, 9:51, archived)
# oh thank god
i didn't want to say this but its true. living with two scousers for a year i've started having to watch what i say about the Beatles.

i'll still glass anyone who's got a bad word against the Jam though...

# Scousers using the Beatles as an excuse to be proud of Liverpool
is rather like English football fans using 1966 as a reason to be proud of the English football team.

ie, A bit tired and overused.

# best. analogy. ever
(, Fri 4 Jul 2008, 9:58, archived)
# it's all down to differing taste.
aside from 'Walrus' the Beatles have done fuck all to get me excited about their music. I prefer Lennon's solo stuff, but it's still not a regular thing on my playlist
(, Fri 4 Jul 2008, 9:56, archived)
# the beatles have a few songs i like
and i respect what they accomplished but it doesn't engage me really. not like bowie. when if your mood is right and you put on Diamond Dogs, you can feel thousands of electric shocks on your skin from just how incredible the album is.
in fact i think i need to listen to that now

# I think a 'Bowie friday' is calling
(, Fri 4 Jul 2008, 10:01, archived)
# I agree that the songs have not all faired well enough to be held in such high regard
but you have to appreciate that they get bummed and played to death and they don't really resonate so very well today BUT I think music today would be very different if we hadn't had them AND if you get a couple of albums (mostly the later stuff) and listen to them through they're actually very very very good.

I also like Lennon's solo stuff, but find it so filled with hypocrisy that it fills me with rage

# The Jam ... as in something Paul Weller has been involved with?
(, Fri 4 Jul 2008, 9:58, archived)
# this could get messy if you push this

# *clears throat*
Paul Weller is a tosser; the Jam are rubbish, as are the style council as are his solo efforts. Going Underground isn't all that bad if you don't hear it too often.
(, Fri 4 Jul 2008, 10:09, archived)
# the style council and his solo stuff can fuck off
but the jam were amazing.

# *cough* shite *cough*
unless you actually mean The Jams, as in the Justified Ancients of MuMu, in which case you are correct sir, I will fight a bugger anyone who has a bad thing to say about them.

# *wheels out anecdote*
my mum went to school with him.

i can't imagine that Bowie would refuse it though, he's never exactly been politically rebellious has he.
