# Two things, Barry Berndes.
Been trying to get back into drawing after a hiatus of a couple of months. So I drew Silrathus the demon, having dispatched a n00b demon-slayer.

CFB (200kb)

And here's some graffiti I found at the abandoned motorway junction at Tipner.

# What is the story behind the top image?
(, Mon 28 Jul 2008, 21:09, archived)
# As in why did I want to draw it, or as in what's going on in it?
If the latter: the demon's just killed some demon-slayer/paladin type, and that's the dude's sword, shield and helm strewn around. The demon's playing with the man's skull.

If the former: I just like demons.

# What was the demon slayer's name?
tell us more about him.
(, Mon 28 Jul 2008, 21:13, archived)
# Shoefingers.

# ahhh
fair enough.

It's good that, I like your Demon. But you know me, not quick with the compliments.

# He's a Man...the Maaaaan with the Hush Puppies Touch....
hallo petal. Board hugs et cetera :-)

# Pfft.
'Lo.

# mind you if he touches puppies and
tells them to Hush, he must be a puppiophile

# I was wondering when you'd post here again.
I'd beef up the outlines around the legs/tail. It looks a little busy around that area now. Other than that, spot on.
(, Mon 28 Jul 2008, 21:10, archived)
# Oo, tips. Thank you very much!
(, Mon 28 Jul 2008, 21:12, archived)
# I always wonder if giving out suggestions here is the right thing to do
it's B3ta after all and not drawingtips.com

I personally never bother polishinjg the edges of things that I post here and enjoy the fact that it's about the idea or the joke not the execution which is obviously the reverse in my day job (.... as an executioner)
(, Mon 28 Jul 2008, 21:17, archived)
# I'm happy to get criticism
and I usually give it if I have something useful to say. If the other person doesn't like it they don't have to heed my words.
(, Mon 28 Jul 2008, 21:17, archived)
# I don't really care if I should or shouldn't 'give out suggestions'.
Because I'm going to.
(, Mon 28 Jul 2008, 21:19, archived)
# what if the other person had done their very best and spent ages on it?
you'd crush their spirit and make them cry bitter, bitter tears of failure
(, Mon 28 Jul 2008, 21:21, archived)
# Or alternatively, they'll say
'cor, that's a useful tip for making my things even better, thanks'.
Tips are normally taken the right way here, I'm always happy to receive them.
(, Mon 28 Jul 2008, 21:23, archived)
# indeed, I just wonder if its what people are expecting here
in a place of actual artistic display yes, but B3ta's just about fucking about I thought
(, Mon 28 Jul 2008, 21:24, archived)
# Yeah, I've never really done anything serious here.
But still, even though it's just pissing about, I want my shops to be half decent.
(, Mon 28 Jul 2008, 21:26, archived)
# There's a different between criticism and a helping pointer. I'd be happy that someone took the time out to suggest a change, rather than getting a 'woo' or some tiresome, and meaningless, shit like that.
(, Mon 28 Jul 2008, 21:23, archived)
# true
but pointless woos are often the way here.

# Lol
(, Mon 28 Jul 2008, 21:48, archived)
# I'd understand having a crushed spirit if you'd received a tirade of abuse,
but if you're going to cry over legit criticism you shouldn't be posting your work online.
(, Mon 28 Jul 2008, 21:26, archived)

# I don't like the attitude of
LOOK AT MY POST, I AM AWESOME, ALL SHALL BOW TO ME.

I'd assume most people post things for the enjoyment of others, and if there is constructive criticism then I'm sure it's appreciated.
(, Mon 28 Jul 2008, 21:21, archived)
# But if someone posts a joke (as is usually the way of B3ta) for the enjoyment of others
its a bit off to say, that would be funnier if....

(I have no idea where I'm going with this, just making observations about B3ta and its ways)

# Humour isn't really something that can be improved upon in the same way as technique
(, Mon 28 Jul 2008, 21:24, archived)
# I disagree
but wouldn't tell someone they aren't as funny as they can be as it crushes what they have done which is horrible (especially as all humour is subjective).
(, Mon 28 Jul 2008, 21:26, archived)
# I'm sure it can be improved upon,
but not as simply or as obviously as 'shopping technique.
Also, as you say it's more objective, so you can say 'if you add this it'll be smoother/more realistic' or whatever.
(, Mon 28 Jul 2008, 21:29, archived)
# but if the person wanted their "art"
to look the way it does and was simply posting it here in the hope that it made someone smile.......
(, Mon 28 Jul 2008, 21:47, archived)
# I can't imagine there being a problem with someone saying
'this is very good, but here's a technique you might want to try to make it better'
(, Mon 28 Jul 2008, 21:49, archived)
# You'd think so
I suggested mofaha try doing something other than vectoring images on the net and got a torrent of abuse for my troubles.

thuis saving anyone the need to point out the bleeding obviousl

It's saving on carbon emissions with al lthe time people aren't spending on debating a moot point using ELECTRIC

# actually as a general thing, that attitude on the internet pisses me off
"LOOK I'M DOING THIS! SO I DESERVE REWARD"!

haha, life's shit

# Can I ask, in your 3D stuff, how do you get the celebrity head textures to look so good?
Whenever I try it looks shit...
(, Mon 28 Jul 2008, 21:22, archived)
# which ones?
they're all massively low res and splodgy if you ask me
(, Mon 28 Jul 2008, 21:23, archived)

Someone scrawled "PAKIS ARE SCUM" on it, which someone modified to say "CAKES ARE SCRUMMY"

I thought it was amusing...

# That is wonderful.
But how do you change a P to a C?
(, Mon 28 Jul 2008, 21:15, archived)

/edit: I've always liked clear-lined drawings with lots of detail. And also demons.

also, I can tell from a fairly reliable source that 'roy is a fart' means 'I love you' in Dutch
