It's part of the BBC's master plan
to rule the internet and force all UK web surfers to buy a tv licence

it depends how you look at it
we pay for it through our TV licence ... but you don't have to pay more to download it.

4od was a cocking nightmare
I agree with you there!
I think iplayer is alright, but they could do with stuff being available for longer than 7 days though.

I have no problem with iPlayer at all.
I do dislike the having to download it to watch them for 30 days.

Top Gear for example, is available until January.

The wonders of rights-holders
If it's made by the BBC it's more than likely available for 30 days.
Unfortunately rights holders are the bane of everyone's existence.
/works for a music selling website and is still furious about there being country rights on music when it's on the Internet

They should highlight that in the radio times or something.
A few times I've though, "Oh I've missed that, but I'll catch it on iPlayer later", to find that it's not there :(

There used to be a lovely irony on the Radio 4 player
That 'Pick of the Week' wasn't available to listen again, that never failed to inject a little mirth into dull Sunday evenings.

I often use iPlayer but I don't have realplayer installed on my computer but I didn't want to disagree in case I was wrong :D

I've had bother before
where I've tried to watch stuff on iPlayer and it tells me I have top have Realplayer.
Which begs the question, why did the Beeb not build it to be universal.
