# Excession is my favourite book of all time ever...
and I fancied a bit of a change so I thought I'd pay some small tribute.
(, Wed 25 Mar 2009, 11:09, archived)
# I must admit, Against A Dark Background is my fave,
Closely followed by Use of Weapons. They're all good, though.

(, Wed 25 Mar 2009, 11:11, archived)
# Nope. Stand by Excession.
Followed, if anything, by The Algebraist...

# I did like Excession
the problem was that was the first Culture novel I read, it threw me in the deep end a bit!
(, Wed 25 Mar 2009, 11:20, archived)
# Nah I think it's pretty accessible...
Once you get over the fact that 90% of the key protagonists are AIs ;)
(, Wed 25 Mar 2009, 11:28, archived)
# I know I'm a bit late but
Use of Weapons is the best, followed by Player of Games, followed by Excession.

# Heh
I quite like "Attitude Adjuster"

# Just kerrazy I guess...
Been revisiting my Iain M Banks collection, and fancied bringing a bit of Culture to b3ta ;)
(, Wed 25 Mar 2009, 11:13, archived)
# aaahhhhhhh
I ain't not never read any M Banks stuff -- although Iain is a favourite orfor of mine... wasp factory and complicity and crow read are all excellent books.

Which IMB should I look out if I was wanting to give it a try?

Cheers all - that's my reading sorted for the next few months by the looks of it... as soon as I can get The Dark Tower finished (am reading it to the missus and it's not much better second time around :S)

# Player of games is the only one I've read with an awareness that it was his
it's rather good, in a slightly traditional-sci-fi way.
(, Wed 25 Mar 2009, 11:18, archived)
# good show - I'm on it
thanks :)

# Player of Games is brill, Excession is fun, but to be honest, start from the beginning -
Consider Phlebas (although technically State of the Art is I think for chronology, but that's just short stories)
(, Wed 25 Mar 2009, 11:21, archived)
# There was a great radio adaptation of 'State of the Art' on Radio 4
a couple of Saturdays back - 'twas very good.
(, Wed 25 Mar 2009, 11:43, archived)
# All of them.
Culture ones for preference... Consider Phlebas was his first SF, but it's not a particular fave of mine. I love Excession but any of the ones referenced in this thread will be worth a read.
