They're easier and more accurate than using the number bar, in my experience.

I've just successfully cracked one out using nothing but my number bar.
Granted, I've got spaff all over the QWE, ASD, and ZXC keys, and the tab key seems to be stuck, but other than that it was a most satisfying wank.

On the rare occasion I enter numbers, passwords for example, it tends to be easier to use the number bar because of the integration with the rest of the password (I.e. the letters below it).
I work with numbers all day long, but in this day and age unless you're doing actual data entry, you seldom need to type numbers out.
