This is a normal post I don't think awareness of these fallacy labels has raised the level of debate, rather the opposite
I more often see them misapplied or used by cockheads. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. I find it somewhat more persuasive to detail why someone is wrong than just shout a label at them. there was a study in last month's New Scientist that shows online debate is getting stupider, comparing the language complexity level used in the last 10 years on sites like reddit
