The general message being, FEAR EVERYTHING
Ed: I forgot to mention that these aren't for the public but for business owners.

I like the contradiction in recognising sleepers
" Long unexplained absences for purposes of religious education, charity work or pilgrimage"
Er.. they've just explained the absence in the same very sentence. Sad really, as amusing as this nonsense phrase is, the intended meaning is very very clear. Devout muslim = terrorist.

a tautology in the internet cafe one
"What Should I Consider Suspicious?
Suspicious communications.... "
Suspicious stuff is suspicious. Thanks FBI. Maybe try using a dictionary? You can't just define something as itself. Chair (noun) It's a chair.

A lot goes on behind the scenes in monitoring terrorists.
It's surprising how much the authorities know.

the meaning is VERY VERY clear isn't it....
i have it on very good authority that the FBI is just a cover for a neo nazi organisation and the acronym actually stands for 'fuck bloody immigrants'.

well the reference is sandwiched between two sentences both talking about islam
"arrival from countries where violent militant Islamic groups are known to operate"
and
"Travel to countries where militant Islam rules"
So yes. It's very clear they are talking about Muslims and the Hajj festival.

Those places do have a history of being the initiating points for jihad.
The references are justified.

my point is they've described something that ordinary devout muslims do
they go on pilgrimage. Parents at my local school do this. I know this because we recently had an assembly and Muslim parents came in and talked about going to Mecca.
The FBI has decreed this suspicious. What's the contentious bit I'm saying here?

No, nothing i can see where you are coming from.
These things are written by people who have been involved in/seen some really bad stuff. What they are writing is correct and they are right that we should note the subtle things they listed. It's just when what they have written is read by those people outside of the 'really bad stuff' business it doesn't come across very well and can be interpreted as being vaguely racist or overtly fearful of specific groups.
The west is generally a very nice safe place, but there are some terrorists living there who need to be stopped.

No they have not...
they have merely stated that going on the Hajj COULD be a constituent part of suspicious behaviour. and excellent point above about Pakistani Madrassas.

the Hajj festival?
for someone so quick to take offence on behalf of the Ummah, you really ought not to call something that is one of the five pillars of Islam and an impeative for all muslims something as frivolous as a 'festival'. at least the FBI get that right and call it a pilgrimage.

The ironic thing is tattoos are apparently forbidden in Sunni Islam
And I doubt there many 'half hearted' Islamic terrorists. If you're going to blow yourself up on a plane I guess you take the faith pretty seriously
