British Man eats civilized food for first time.
Speaking as a transplant from the cold north, grits are served with everything, but only if you order that.
Side note: The word Grits is actually from Old English, meaning "Coarsely ground." Grytt.

Grit is what you spread on the roads in Winter. It is not an appetising name for food.

Had them in a local diner in Kentucky. The texture was just unpleasant.

Biscuits and gravy = scones and white sauce.
I don’t know what’s worse, their mockery of our cuisine or the sheer bloody effrontery to call that filth “gravy”.

I ate shrimp and grits at a posh hotel in Georgia
They were ok. I made my own, much better. My wife said that they were the only grits she's ever actually liked. Also, you do know that grits and polenta are the same thing. Not a huge fan of polenta either.
