But surely unless there are multiple Sam Smiths *shudder* the correct pronoun would now be 'it'?

But Sam Smith's are a rather excellent chain of pubs.

Last time I set foot in one I got the alpine for £2.10. In the middle of London. Bloody amazing.

So having no gender seems appropriate.

If they want to be called by a pronoun that doesn't imply they have a gender they don't feel like they belong to, then fine. They seem to be being quite reasonable about it, rather than uppity and demanding.

Distilling it down to the pronouns thing leads to some terribly hack "I identify as" comedy from comedians stuck in 2003 with a Netflix special, though.

is not really to do with the pronouns at all; it's certainly not a problem to use a different set of pronouns for someone if required. When you consider what a pronoun is (a word to make it slightly easier to understand who or what the fuck someone is talking about). why would that ever really matter?
The objection is about to having to give even half a shit about someone else's genitals and/or genitally-related psychology. I don't care what shape your junk is, neither do I care about the shape of person you slide your junk into/over. I especially don't care what kind of junk you'd like to pretend to have, or have had / would like to have surgically constructed.
And a lot of the time that seems to be the purpose of these pronouncements... to make the whole world as conscious of their junk as it's possible to do without waving it around on camera.
People like this Sam Smith should be allowed to do what they like, and should not be persecuted or harassed for it, but more importantly they should shut the fuck up about it until someone asks.

Seeing gender as non-binary seems primarily a rejection of the idea of a "real man" or "manning up" and all that shit - which seems healthy enough. Not sure how much genitals have to do with it.
I'm just hoping it stops people assuming I'm a man so must like football.
