I found it particularly amusing.
(Note, I'm not in favour of Brexit, but I'm fully in favour of anyone telling a room full of tabloid journalists where they should shove themselves.)

But I'd say that given the context, you'd have to either be pretty thick or willfully obtuse not to also see that.

that Jess Philips was talking about receiving threats on Twitter, and he @d her to say he'd not rape her, then encouraged a pile-on.
"Banter"
(, Fri 10 May 2019, 0:15, Reply)
or he intended it to be seen by his followers, and he must know that his fans will pile on because they always do. I mean, why else would he put "Please do not contact the subjects of any of my videos, ever" on his YouTube channel if he wasn't looking to shirk responsibility for something he knows will happen anyway - it's a shitty disclaimer. And if he didn't expect his fans to see the message, what response do you think he wanted to his 'joke' in the first place?
Besides, he @ed in someone with something he knew would upset her, which I'd say *contextually* makes it not "clearly intended as a throwaway joke".
He's a bully. Most bullying behaviour is technically 'jokes' - bullies laugh when they bogwash someone. I'm not sure when something being a joke became an excuse for anything. I wouldn't read it as a *literal* rape threat, but I would read it as malicious communications.
(, Fri 10 May 2019, 13:18, Reply)
The test is, if you 'joke' back they get very upset.
(, Fri 10 May 2019, 14:56, Reply)
Also he didn't bogwash anyone (which would of course actually be assault), which is an entirely different thing.
And also, the answer is no, he did literally the opposite of inciting a pile on.
(, Fri 10 May 2019, 15:08, Reply)
The context was @ing someone in with abuse, which clearly falls under the malicious communications act.
You haven't said why it is clearly a joke given that context.
(, Fri 10 May 2019, 16:54, Reply)
There's no threat there. There's no profanity. According to case law it would not be considered grossly offensive. The only thing it actually contains is an implication that she's ugly. I think you'd need some pretty interesting chicanery to actually classify this as abuse from a legal standpoint.

As a side note; I think it's probably funny to some ill informed, lucky or naive people because they don't understand that yes; at various parties, functions, "comings of age" men have pressured other men into raping women.
[EDIT: You're a man, because you hurt someone who isn't. Is probably the most essential motto of this ethos/thinking.]

1. It was never a threat.
2. That isn't the reason.

2. Then saying you would rape them if you were drunk enough is a rape threat
3. It's vile, stupid and unfunny whether you accept the above or not
4. saying she deserves worse is bone-heaed , tone-deaf vile, stupid etc
5. Why is the onus on me to leave the room rather than making you stop saying shit - after all if this was a pub car park at closing time, you would not be saying this.
6. Stop talking shit.

But as an example of the problem the media has in the UK, take a look at the coverage of this Danny Baker tweet. Pretty much every story directly calls him racist, with the reader's interpretation of the message being confused with the sender's intent. Essentially the media as a whole has constructed a strawman with his name on it. He's guilty of crimes that he's committed in other people's imaginations, and that's all that matters.
(, Thu 9 May 2019, 22:49, Reply)
'Professional gobshite says something without thinking, gets sack' is a story as old as time.
The problem is insidious cunts like this one making people think that everything they've been told their whole lives is a sham in order to get elected. You'll notice he doesnt mention the trustpilot reviews of the actual tabloids. Why? Because they're mostly on his side
(, Fri 10 May 2019, 10:49, Reply)
Any entertainment organisation can fire anyone at any time, on the basis of public opinion... from a commercial point of view an entertainer's entire purpose is to be popular, and if they're not popular it is not tenable to keep them (though they should have just said that, rather than pretending the tweet was racist).
The problem is intentionally selecting the worst possible interpretation of some facts specifically to paint someone in a bad light, and shouting down any attempt by a person to clarify what they mean because that would require the media to admit that they'd jumped to conclusions and got it wrong.
He mentioned the trustpilot scores of the top 3 television news organisations and none of the papers, but they're not on his side in the slightest. The daily mail has wasted no time; they've already smeared him as a pedo... as has the sun and the mirror. He was referring to all of them, and they know that and they've brought out the biggest gun they can.

Here he is making an absolute dogs dinner of loads of unrelated concepts.
You can tell he's on the conspiracy version of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frankfurt_School#Cultural_Marxism_conspiracy_theory because he's talking about the critique of the enlightenment, and attacks on rationalism itself.
Frighteningly similar to the core aspect in the Nazi's anti Jewish rhetoric that led them into a war aimed at wiping out the 'threat to western civilization'.
The guy thinking reading something in a sarcastic voice, and then scoffing makes him an intellectual. Best case he doesn't know shit, worst case he know's what he's doing and is muddying the waters for actual Neo Nazi cunts.

He's entertaining perhaps, but he's also a gatekeeper into a downward spiral of scum, it all starts with his main lesson which is teaching people to skim read and then dismiss opponents out of hand. As if mindless scorn were a meaningful response.
It's the antithesis of critical thought.
It's your life and all, but the more you watch him, the angrier and stupider you'll get.
Why not learn, or create something new instead?
Life's short man, let the hateful wallow in their own shit.

Incidentally I've not watched him much. Just this and maybe half of two other videos, which were considerably less interesting.
I don't think there's any particular risk to my critical faculties, since I don't really agree with much of what I heard. But I'm not prepared to dismiss everything someone says out of hand just because of other things they've said or who they associate with, and that goes equally for this guy as it does for people at the other end like John McDonnell.

All he knows is the internet. He thinks that tabloid journalists are thick and can be played. But they're more intelligent than their broadsheet counterparts, with added ruthlessness and they (unlike a YouTuber) genuinely shape opinion. For anyone in public life, they are to be feared above all else.
There's no equivalent in America, so Trump sailed through. But in the UK, no-one insults the tabloids with impunity (except Coogan and Hugh Grant, whose careers are set and who both know the worst is out there). UKIP are fucked now. And Farage - who's wise to the game, and who is a very great deal more sinister than Akkad/Dankula - slips effortlessly into the voice of Brexit reason and, soon perhaps - blessed be the day - into power...

But let's say the King of YouTube, Pewdiepie, stood for election. He'd get nowhere. Voters are conservative. They don't like rape jokes, they don't know who Pewdiepie is, they fear change that they don't understand. That Black Mirror episode seems prescient after Trump, but it's bollocks.
