'Riots laptop thief' found using Facebook info
Guess i'm as confused as everybody else who watched it judging by the comments.
Would one of you IT people care to elaborate on the statement: "...by using what's called 'open source software'"

What I don't get
is the connection to how he was able to track down his mac with such apparent ease. I'm obviously missing something completely obvious

It took a screen shot of his name after the theif logged into facebook iirc
from there it was pretty easy

probably talking about some kind of anti theft software
you install a bit of S/W and if your laptop gets nicked you can activate the software remotely, once activated it will take screen and webcam shots and upload them to a webserver without the computer user knowing, it also tells you lots of useful IP information which with that is really easy to locate your nicked computer.
