Thoughts, anyone?

"Why?"
There's nothing wrong with the original, IMO.

They've updated a few bits - there's some dancey basslines and some dubstep lite (for beginners) and some industrial mutterings going on. It does seem a bit strange to try and make something appeal to the yoof when the only people who'll notice are the 30somethings.

I just don't see a market for it, but maybe I have an optimistic view of the world's taste in music.

but think it needed more Gary Barlow?

Also I think that dubstep could very well have found it's only natural home here. Distorted warblings and off kilter beats would be pretty much perfect.

Quite frankly, voices and theatrical talent like Richard Burton's come around every few hundred years, Liam Nielsen sounded very good.
Guess it will be Morgan Freeman in the States..

He really shouldn't be sounding quite so happy about his unit being wiped out.

so that's a load of shit. Liam Neeson appears to be filling Burton's shoes though. Just. But the music feels off...hardly changed from the original really, apart from a few jazzed-up effects and beats. But the whole thing sounds...well...a bit cheaper, like those rip-off cds you hear playing in shops without the original artists.
I have to ask, what's the point? If you're not going to redo it massively and more betterer, don't bother at all. Quite liked the bit where it goes all underwatery though.

I went to see the stage production at weekend, and absolutely loved it...
and even though i did really enjoy it, it still made me pine for the the original .. Burton, Essex. Lynott.. the original is one of those rare examples of getting everything right!
There really isn't a need for "the new generation" .. Jeff Wayne must need a few quid, and Barry Garlow hasn't nearly enough exposure is all i can think!?!

and although he's a bit annoying, i really like his voice on it..
"Just hunks of mettul.."

innit. yeah, kinda like it - rose tinted nostalgia an' all that - but he was just flavour of the month at the time, much as whoever is playing whoever in the current cash grabbing remake i s'spose.
let's start over agAIN... over aGAIN...

It's like I've stumbled across what I thought was the original but is actually a not-as-good cover. Like those Christmas albums you buy that turn out to be Stars in Their Eyes style impersonations.
Disappointing :(
