USA vs UK is data not like for like
because (as well as other differences) the data he shows takes no account of environment / type of road.
mile for mile, most serious accidents in the UK happen on rural roads.
and the least happen on motorways.
in the UK we have proportionately much less rural roads then the USA. So I would say that is a major factor and a correlation not mentioned in his rant.

I remember getting in a car in the states years ago, back when they different cars to home

I went to the States too
