when
did people start thanking bus drivers when they get off the bus? i've only noticed it in the last couple of years. why?
(, Sat 1 Jun 2013, 13:57, 19 replies)
I've always done it, it's only polite

(, Sat 1 Jun 2013, 14:06, closed)
true
but, as i say, i've only really noticed people doing it in the last few years
(, Sat 1 Jun 2013, 14:12, closed)
Bus driver is probably a pretty shit job, seeing some of the abuse they get from drunks, kids etc
Don't want to add my rudeness to that
(, Sat 1 Jun 2013, 14:45, closed)
there's 2 i won't thank
but only because one's a complete and consistent prick and the other tried to knock me off my bike
(, Sat 1 Jun 2013, 15:08, closed)
he had a point though.

(, Sun 2 Jun 2013, 8:44, closed)
a point?
he had a whole fucking bus!
(, Sun 2 Jun 2013, 14:39, closed)
I've always done it,
since I was a wee nipper (not someone who nips wees).
(, Sat 1 Jun 2013, 14:17, closed)
me too
i was starting to think i was strange
(, Sat 1 Jun 2013, 14:19, closed)
I think that's a different question...

I'm another one who ahs always done it.
Perhaps those around you have finally learned from your good manners?
(, Sat 1 Jun 2013, 15:07, closed)
that'd be nice
but i doubt it
(, Sat 1 Jun 2013, 15:08, closed)
It's a pretty universal thing outside of London.
Where people aren't generally ignorant, self-absorbed wankers.

CHEERS DRIVE!

Former bus driver speaking
It's appreciated.

It's better than "WE'VE BEEN STUCK IN TRAFFIC FOR HALF AN HOUR!" Yes, chav, this isn't some sort of heli-bus that can rise above traffic and get you to Wetherspoons quicker.

Or "I'VE SLIPPED ON YER FLOOR AN' I WANT COMPENSATION". It's raining, you fat slack chav, you're wearing stupid shoes and you've been on your arse several times before you got on my bus.

It was a lovely job between jobs mainly, and I only left because they realised I'd been a bit more senior before and made me a manager.
(, Sat 1 Jun 2013, 19:18, closed)
maybe it's me
and i just didn't notice before that i wasn't the only one saying it. then again, i've only really been using buses for the past few years
(, Sun 2 Jun 2013, 14:42, closed)
I've done it since I could talk, and everybody on my morning bus does it
Have you recently moved away from the home counties, or summat?
(, Sun 2 Jun 2013, 11:34, closed)
no

(, Sun 2 Jun 2013, 14:40, closed)
Up untill a little over 3 years ago I very seldomly went on buses, but never noticed anyonyone thanking the driver back then.
Then 3 years ago when I started using the buses on a regular basis I noticed that everyone seemed to thank the driver and wondered myself "When the fuck did people start doing this?" so I started too.

It does piss me off when they don't acknoweldge you back though, and the ones that look at me like I'm a piece of shit because I have a free bus pass.
(, Mon 3 Jun 2013, 14:49, closed)
most of our local drivers will acknowledge it
but there's always a few arseholes
