Thebigfella tugs our coat and says: Are you a LibDem minister, a cheating partner, or maybe you have an annoying friend you can't be bothered with? Tell us of promises you've broken, or if you've been on the receiving end.

Is a tool we use to get something for nothing….or to get people to do their bloody jobs….it’s a matter of viewpoint.
The promise will be along the lines of "Don’t worry, we’ll sort something out.", "We won’t forget this" , "We can’t afford to pay you overtime on this occasion, but next time…"

"I've forwarded it to my boss, who will get back to me once she's decided on the pay rise."

is of course "See you next time then". I used to have loyalty and do favours for companies but not anymore. Too many vague promises not fulfilled in the past. Its the same reason i arrive at 9 and leave at 5.30.

Being told such things is a sure indication that it won't happen. If you don't hear it, you're more likely to get the raise/appreciation/bonus.
I always took such things for the empty words that they were so I wasn't disappointed. I've seen plenty of people really put out by those lies though so I think it's pretty disreputable.
