This is a question Celebrity Encounters III

I once stood next to Ian Beale out of EastEnders in the gents' toilets at the BBC. BEAT THAT. Tell us of celebrity encounters that went well, or meetings with the famous that ended up as a complete disaster. (And we'll take it as read you've just made up a "I got touched up by Jimmy Savile" story, OK?)

One chilly october - 2003.
I witnessed the passage of a celebrity.
Namely - I heard the last flight of Concorde from Edinburgh to London.
It was only a rumble in the distance - of failed dreams.

I flew on Concorde too.
As a passenger plane there are better I will admit, but it was beautiful and should have been developed as a bomber. Mach 2 and low level capability? Would've blown the American's minds at the time.

Yeah let's focus all technological advancement on how best to kill folk.

this comment brought to you via a suite of network protocols initially sponsored by the US DoD

The TCP/IP family is an IEEE initiative. Packet switching was invented by physicists. ALOHA/Ethernet was a computer science nerd.
As was HTML and the WWW.

Are you using a completely different interweb to the rest of us?

I was referring specifically to the TCP/IP suite, initially developed by (D)ARPA, and thus bankrolled by the DoD. I wasn't saying Sir Tim Berners-Lee is some shadowy US super-secret ninja (although unofficially, he definitely is). In any case, I use the cool internet for cool people.
