This is a question I don't understand the attraction

Smaug says: Ricky Gervais. Lesbian pr0n. Going into a crowded bar, purely because it's crowded. All these things seem to be popular with everybody else, but I just can't work out why. What leaves you cold just as much as it turns everyone else on?

Ok, seeing as everyone else is at it...
Guitar Fucking Hero.

What. Is. The. Point?

As far as I can tell, this 'game' involves pressing buttons on a big plastic guitar in time to some arrows appearing on the screen.

Fucking why? What do they see in it? For the price of an XBOX 360 and a copy of Guitar Hero, you could actually buy a real guitar. And an amp. And you wouldn't look like a cunt.

I've said it before and i'll say it again...
it's not a computer game unless you can blow a zombies head off with a shotgun and anyone who disagrees with me is a communist.

So there.

Ooh Rah!
Too right, the most gratifying gaming experience since sliced zombies!

The guitarist from my old band is obsessed with this
For his 30th birthday we went down the pub to watch him play Guitar Hero - it would probably have been less self-indulgent if he'd invited us down to watch him wank.

The sad thing is, he's a GUITARIST. He can actually play all those songs. Fuck's sake.

when those sort of games started coming out i made an oath
if i ever get to a decent standard of RB/GH guitar/drum playing, i.e. can do all songs on medium and do well on hard, then i will learn to play the actual instrument

does seem a bit
pointless doesn't it?

The same reason that a lot of other games appeal;
instant gratification. You can pick up a plastic controller and within five minutes "pretend" to be a rock star in a band without hours of practice and finding people to play with. You could say the same for just about any game that simulates a real-world activity (football, driving, fighting etc).

Yeah
but what's wrong with the old tennis racquet?
(, Tue 20 Oct 2009, 11:21, closed)
i dont think
the majority of people who play games actually 'pretend' to be anything...they are just playing a game ffs. do i 'pretend' to be a footballer when i played sensible soccer?, nope. do i 'pretend' to be a rogue scientist when playing half life?, nope

so, if i see some cockwatcher 'pretending' to be in a rock band whilst playing these glorified 'press the button NOW' games, then i will kick them in the kidneys and 'pretend' to be a violent thug.

the concept itself is not lame, it is after only only a computer game, but the gay posturing and ridiculous froth that is generated by the marketeers and swallowed wholesale by the fanbois, is.

Yuk
I HATE guitar hero, I lived and worked on a campsite in France with 5 guys who spent 2 months constantly trying to beat the score of the guy I had replaced whod managed to get something like 4googleplex points on Annoying Metal Song #10

Guitar Queero
I don't think South Park have ever done a better job of cutting to the bone of a social phenomenon than in the Guiatr Hero episode.

"YOU ARE FAGS!" pretty much sums up anyone who devotes weeks and weeks to perfecting their technique when they could pick up a REAL guitar. I enjoy the game casually, but it gets real old real fast.
