You need to understand the difference between jealousy and anger to appreciate a lot of the responses you've read today.
Most of us work hard, and enjoy the fruits of our labours.

We are, however, unprepared to listen to him whining on about how hard done by he is when it is our taxes that will pay for his healthcare, and any social benefits he chooses to claim.

Also it doesnt take balls and intelligence to be a slacker and a freeloader. It takes idleness and a complete lack of pride.

finding a job is easy you say? bollocks I say.
since finishing university in august with a degree in media studies and a HND in computer systems engineering I though it would be a piece of cake finding any old job just to get the cash rolling in while I look for a job that I really want. I was wrong.

I have applied for just about any vacancy I could find and I have signed up to several agencies but I still haven't been given a job by anyone!
I had to sign up for jobseekers yesterday because I am in my overdraft and there is sod all of it left. you people who have a job where you sit on your arse all day doing nothing and then complain that you are bored should count yourself very lucky because there are people out there willing to work for their money but can they hell as find a job.

You have to set your sights a lot lower, mate.
When I left Polytechnic in 1993 with an HND in Computer Science, I couldnt get a job for love nor money.
I ended up temping at UCL stapling newsletters to their payroll slips.
Took me 12 months from leaving college to actually getting a job of worth.

perhaps doing something worthwhile, or not going to uni and taking some kind of vocational course may have been of more use.

Sad to say, a degree in pretty much anything is useless these days. Experience is what you need, even if it's unpaid. I've got two first class degrees in real subjects (as opposed to Media Studies) and the only person who's ever been impressed by that is my mother.

Media studies? I think that explains it. As for an HND in what ever it wat - one more year would have turned that into a degree and then you would have no problems finding a job. HND's are like A-levels in that their only purpose is to get you onto a related degree course.

You don't tell us what classification of degree you got either Rickay. IF you got a first then I've some sympathy for you, but if you got a third or lower second then how can you be suprised?

Actually now with 14 years behind me,....
I'd have to say that in my chosen sphere of professional expertise, degrees are worth nothing. (Companies look for graduate calibre, but not necessarily applied academic qualifications).

It took me 5 years of doing menial jobs related to my career, studying for and putting myself through professional qualifications and getting that (as frankspencer rightly points out) all important experience on my CV which got me where I am today.

In todays society no-one learns humility. Everyone thinks they have a right to a big house, a 4*4 or a BMW on the driveway and designer clothes on their back.
Rewind 40 years my parents generation and having a car was a luxury, designer clothes were a reserve of the super-rich and you saved for everything. As kids of the 1980s/90s we have been bought up on the premise that you can have the world - which is fine and should be encouraged, only problem is the people who want the world stop listening at the part where you actually have to work for it.
