This is a question Crap Gadgets

We wanted a monkey butler and bought one off eBay. Imagine our surprise when we found it was just an ordinary monkey with rabies. Worse: It had no butler training at all. Tell us about your duff technology purchases.

Thanks to Moonbadger for the suggestion

Because the fuse for the stereo is usually shared with something like the brake lights. The reasoning behind this is that you could go along for ages with the fuse blown in your brake lights and not notice (how many cars did you see today with at least one brake light out), but you'd notice that the stereo wasn't working.

Volvo 340s had the fuse shared between the switched ignition feed for the brake lights, the stereo and the idle stop solenoid. If the fuse for the brake lights went, the radio wouldn't work and the engine would cut out every time you stopped at traffic lights.

that
would lead to the car being sold immediately, or said feature being disabled in some way
