This is a question Pointless Experiments

Pavlov's Frog writes: I once spent 20 minutes with my eyes closed to see what it was like being blind. I smashed my knee on the kitchen cupboard, and decided I'd be better off deaf as you can still watch television.

Not really "pointless", I suppose...
...but who first thought "I'm going to squeeze those dangly things on that cow and drink what comes out"?

Or "Mmmm, I know! Orange, apple, cabbage and pineapple! That'll be nice in mayonnaise!"?

Or how about "Those things in the shells look vile! I'm going to cook them in a white wine sauce and call them mussels!"?

And the last one for now... "I wonder what snails taste like, in a a bit of garlic"?

I mean, eh? I actually like all of the above (apart from snails, they just taste like mud to me), but I never would have discovered them on my own...

I've often thought these things.
Cheese, for instance- who thought it would be a good idea to take lumps out of bad milk that smelled like his grandma's breath and eat them?

Artichokes- they're a thistle. Why boil it?

Desperation. That's why. Starvation will do that to one.

"those grapes have been rotting for ages now. let's drink em"

Probably the human animal noticed the other animals
scoffing things and thought, "Ooh, must give that a try". I imagine oftentimes the next words said animal uttered were "Ugh!" and/or "Maybe if I chuck a bit of fire on it?" or similar. And snails are yum in garlic sauce.

I have wondered about the cow thing, too. There must have been some experimentation, there. Did they try a bull first, for instance?

If that had worked, we may even now be covering our corn flakes in bull spunk.

Chickens...
Who looked at a chicken's bum and thought:

"Think I'll eat what pops out of there..."

"that calf's drinking from there and it looks healthy enough"
"eggs have been obvious food for millions of years, and these chicken things seem quite easy to keep in one place. Hey, I've just invented farming."

indeed...
although i'm more interested in the mindset that says " see those beans/ leafy things* over there, that when you eat them, you get really sick -I wonder what happens if you cook them/eat the stems?"

although i suspect the next line in that particular scenario goes "Slave! C'mere, hope you're hungry"

*kidney beans and rhubarb, in case you were wondering.
