This is a question First World Problems

Onemunki says: We live in a world of genuine tragedy, starvation and terror. So, after hearing stories of cruise line passengers complaining at the air conditioning breaking down, what stories of sheer single-minded self-pity get your goat?

One of my students
who I later found gets more pocket money per week than I make for teaching her was moaning about where she was going on spring break.
"Wah, wah, I don't have any privacy the whole week!"

"Oh, where are you going?"

"To my family's cottage" was the reply.

Thinking it was a shack in rural Upper Michigan, I said, "Do you have to sleep on the couch?" or some such sympathetic drivel.

No, she has to share a bedroom with her sister in their FUCKING HOME IN TUSCANY, ITALY!

Jebus wept.

Ah
But you forget the sister snores, has body odour issues, continual flatulence, halitosis and considers personal space optional.
Maybe.

Sharing a room for a week can be fucking annoying. I know I'd rather spend a week in a single room in Bradford than sharing in Tuscany.
Of course, she's lucky she doesn't have to share a room with her whole family all the time, but I think the location where she's sharing is largely irrelevant to how annoying sharing is.

I shared a room with either my brother or my foster sister until I was 13
And often share with my friends now... I know you can get used to having your own room, but seriously, it's not that annoying to share. Especially in a holiday, where the whole point is novelty. I agree that if (as Spangle said) there were a huge amount of other issues, it might be understandable.

I was overstating it a little.
However, I don't even think it's about being used to having your own room -- it's the fact you're never alone for the entire week.
Having no privacy at all, especially as a teen, can be extremely hard to deal with. Whilst the young girl in question is without doubt priveledged I don't think that has as much bearing on things as suggested in the original post.
I was kidding a little about Bradford but in my teens I know I certainly would have preferred that.
