This is a question First World Problems

Onemunki says: We live in a world of genuine tragedy, starvation and terror. So, after hearing stories of cruise line passengers complaining at the air conditioning breaking down, what stories of sheer single-minded self-pity get your goat?

Had to change the wireless router recently, 10 minute job to replace one isn't it?
3 laptops, 3 ipod touches, 2 smart phones, a blackberry playbook, a video streamer and the other video streamer, an Ipad...oh and a USB wireless card and an Internet radio

and the old laptop in my shed.

All of which instantly connected to your new router
once you'd set it up with the same SSID and WPA key as your old one, no?

Virgin router. Hard coded.

Really, are you sure?
That seems very odd to me, and Virgin's support forum seems to suggest you can change it.

Bugger!

Please tell me you didn't have everything looking for your old MAC address.

Bummer if true
I tend to lose routers at least once a year - every time the local telephone exchange, which is on top of a hill, gets struck by lightning. I used a good old fashioned Netgrear DG834g which I buy on ebay and then load my config to. Preparation takes maybe ten minutes at my leisure and swapping it in takes maybe thirty seconds when the old one dies

I have a hard coded BT router which I wouldn't use if you paid me to.

Not sure which VM router you have, but you can change it on the new VM Superhub

(, Sun 4 Mar 2012, 21:53, closed)
I have a VM supplied D-Link router which is most definitely not hard coded
and it too about 10 minutes to configure. My PC, netbook, PVR, networked media player and my son's iphone all connected seamlessly.

Why not deploy a Radius server, SecurID tokens and use 802.1x wireless authentication?
That would have saved you seconds in the long run.

My cat's name is mittens.

So you're the guy who bought a Playbook?
Although, if you are allowing a laptop (regardless of its age) into your shed, you're missing the point of your shed.

I LOVE MY SHED

Touché sir.

Sorry. But that's
terribly neat.

Oh
and on the playbook thing; I seem to be using it more than the ipad for general browsing and media playing duties. I't smaller, plays more file types, easier to transfer files, and the built in speakers are a bazillion times better than the ipad.

but I didn't buy it, got given it by a supplier.
