As long as it's done reasonably, then I don't see a problem. Obviously in sports where it is allowed, such as the given example, the fights are literally fist only. I've never seen an example of someone using their skate to inflict damage and if they were to, they would quite rightly be gone from the sport permanantly. I'm sure that rules could be entered into the "beating the living fuck out of each other" rule that would ensure such safety.
