So very much this.
Why do they need to remake The Dam Busters, for example? In what possible way could a new version be better - aside from the special effects, which weren't the point of the story in any case?
The Italian Job completely missed the point of the first film, with no heart and no humour.
Perhaps the most pointless of all was the shot-for-shot, word-for-word remake of Psycho by Gus Van Sant.
