This is a question B3TA fixes the world

Moon Monkey says: Turn into Jeremy Clarkson for a moment, and tell us about the things that are so obviously wrong with the world, and how they should be fixed. Extra points for ludicrous over-simplification, blatant mis-representation, and humourous knob-gags.

Respect needs to be learnt.
There is one thing that exemplifies what's gone wrong with our great country, it's how it's older citizens are treated. I've been perusing these annals with hot tears of rage streaming down my cheeks, reading how today's youngsters feel about their elders. It's as if those wartime weeks spent working my way through Normandy towns count for nothing. Was I spending my best years selling knock off Bully Beef to French refugees so that a man, probably called Daryl, could try a ram his BMW up my bottom on the A41? No!

I have a solution. Free Tasers for pensioners.

You want to push past me on the pavement do you? Well I'll have you doing the horizontal fox-trot and screaming for mummy me laddo, not so smart now are you?

And you, baby machine, tutting in the shopping queue while I try and enter my PIN number, how would you like a little lie down? And don't think I won't zap your brat, Kia-Ora, or whatever you've called it.

Respect goes two ways
I sometimes think older people need to be reminded of this.

If you don't respect them then I don't blame them for not respecting you, sorry.

yep
I teach my kids to say please, thank you, excuse me please, to give up their seats and wait for others especially getting on the bus (etc etc etc). So imagine how my 8 year old felt when an old lady nastily shouted "MOVE" at him in Sainsbury when he did nothing wrong.

Treat people as you expect to be treated

I was creased
When my wife told me our 5 year old had pointed out two old ladies jack of manners after she'd held a door for them. Of course (being 5) she vocalised this for half of the street to hear. My wife helpfully agreed at a similar volume.

I am pleased someone else pointed this out. For every inconsiderate young one there seems to be another inconsiderate, bile filled elderly one. All you survey is not yours, and to be frank you're all getting it a shite side better than we will when we eventually get to your age.

Drink your tea and shut the fuck up.

As the OP says, "Respect is earned"
...which takes a little more than simply not dying for several decades.

Me I work in a place where the mean age is about 80 something.
They all come from a world where you could basically trust most of the people around you, kids could play in the streets safely & altho money was tight the community all worked together for 1 good cause.
*rereads own post then skulks off to find gun to place against foot*
