Incurring wrath
I posted this a few months back:
Jesus Saves (the planet)
I've just politely turned lisping, be-suited bible-tract-wielding children (accompanied by do-gooding evangelist parents) from my door. They didn't ask for money, but I bet they sucker you in first. They had an new angle - save the planet from global warming through the word of god.
I don't believe in god or man-made global warming.
My money is safe. Well, until the Old Testament style floods begin and I have to spend it all on a boat.
Turns out more people had a go at me about climate change than about my atheism. Eco is the new religion and attracts just as many scary fanatics.

I dislike the eco fanatics just as much
And think that a lot of 'green' things are actually pretty pointless.
But, given the huge amounts of evidence in support of it, I don't see how a scientist such as yourself can legitimately deny anthropogenic climate change unless you've got some ulterior agenda. It's as close to proven as these things get.

You beat me to it, see below.
My main point is that I don't care. Maybe more appropriately, it would be that I see no point in long term goals. Humans are nothing special.

600
Hows about the 600 climate scientist that protested the UN global warming summit recently. The fact that we (most likely (we will know by the end of 2010)) are entering an ice age that we are well overdue for. And if said ice age is occurring then this "global warming" that has recently started are just normal fluctuations. During the middle ages we had a near ice age event that was preceded by a global temperature rise.

To clarify:
while I believe humans may have a catalyst effect on global warming, I do not think that's the whole picture. Nor do I care. It simply doesn't matter. Honestly, can you give me one good reason why it matters if the human race dies out? The only reason I can think of is "well, I don't really want to die yet" but once you're dead why should you give a crap?

OK
Previous post somewhat retracted now you've said this - makes more sense!
And no I don't care if the human race dies out either, it'll be after I'm dead and we've brought it on ourselves anyway. The planet doesn't belong to us, we're only tenants and it's going to evict us and keep the deposit.

Exactly.
So if we're not getting our deposit back, let's do the environmental version of squirting ketchup on the ceiling and shitting behind the radiators. It's too late anyway.

Agreed
While I wholeheartedly endorse maximising the Earth's resources for future generations, a bunch of lefty Tarquins using "The Environment" as an excuse to liberate a shedload of cash from my pocket is going to turn me into a rabid anti-environmentalist.
Sorry, but that's just the way it is.
[Edit:] The biggest problem no one has any balls to deal with is population control.
It's easier for the eco-cunts to prattle on about how much tax they want to take from me because I drive a car while at the same time they blindly do nothing to discourage us all from procreating at an unsustainable rate.
I've abdicated my right to procreate, therefore I expect my burden of eco-taxes to be reduced.

^^^^^^^THIS
Last time someone waffled on at me about my carbon footprint I pointed out that they had children and I didn't. They couldn't actually see my point, which serves to re-emphasis their dumbassedness.

Do you get the looks of
"my god, you've shat in my gruel" when you tell people you aren't having kids?
it's not too bad at the moment, but as time goes on I know it's going to get worse...

If I have kids.
(by some weird chain of circumstances, I don't want to)
I'll teach 'em to eat coal. Out of pure spite.

Well,
Those eco-tossers can fuck off, it's their human rights to eat coal.
I wonder if I'll be able to make 'em semi-mechanical. So they'd HAVE to run on crude oil.

I WANT babies
I just haven't found anyone I want to have them with. My standards, like my knickers, get lower and lower.

At the risk of sounding like a smug breeder
which I am a million, million miles away from being - my experiences have almost all been fucking awful so far - if and when you do have babies the 'I'll be dead so who cares about the future' stance will be gone in a trice, I promise you.

Er, right
One problem at a time.
Whilst it would be nice for someone to come up with a Grand Unifying Theory of Everything to solve all our problems, there's still a point to be made in getting people to think about consumption and energy usage on an an unsustainable scale. Different argument.
Unsustainable population control, well that just takes us back to religion. Catholic Church anyone?

As long as the planet lasts another 90 years, I'm good.
Since my kids say they refuse to ever have babies, I'd like the planet to put off dying at least until my kids are dead.
Sorted.
