This is a question Heroes and villains of 2011

Who were your heroes or villains of the last year, and why? Who inspired you? Who had you kicking the cat across the room? They don't have to be well known, you might even want to laud the achievements of your binman. (Note that "Nick Clegg nuff said" answers puts you straight onto our naughty list)

having only just recently got round to watching Band of Brothers....
I would say my heroes are anyone who fights for this country and for peace throughout the world. (even though it's ironic that you have to fight for peace).

My Villains, however, would be anyone from S*nderland.

So no one since 1945, then.

We haven't had to defend our shores since then, and our adventures in the Middle East sure as hell ain't about spreading peace and love.

i like the term 'adventures'.
I think wars should be rated on the films they inspire.
Also, it says here, the Second World War didn't officially end until the Berlin Wall was ripped down. Germany never signed for the peace treaty. They were out when it was delivered I guess?

Reminds me of a letter in an old Viz:
"Why is the First World War referred to as the 'Great' war, when World War Two, with it's much higher death toll and use of nuclear weapons was clearly far better?"

Check out The Pacific (sort of part 2). Not quite as good but still very watchable.

oddly...
I'd watched that when it was first on sky, but now with Band of Brothers freshly in my head, I think I need to re-watch.

it's be interesting to see a series about the 1st world war...
but as America didn't really have as much of a say in it and they seem to be the ones that document these things, I doubt it'll happen anytime soon...

Blackadder Goes Forth?

There is a problem there though...
You'd get your full first episode covering the training, and the beginning of friendships and all that, then you'd get half a second episode where they deploy, then at the end of that they'd go into action for the first time, 98 percent of them would be gunned down in 15 seconds and of the two survivors one will get shot for cowardice and the other will be invalided back home.

It would be a very brief series...

Bollocks
Will you be going to public outpourings of grief to make yourself more British than other British people.

Our lads, queen mum, hang 'em all.
