This is a question Hypocrisy

Overheard the other day: "I've told you before - stop swearing in front of the kids, for fuck's sake." Your tales of double standards please.

Live Answer
Late answer because it's a live happening at the moment thing that kind of fits in.
I'm sitting in a bar in Bruges (it's in Belgium) it sells 100s of different types of beer for you to try such as Jupiler, Corsendonk and Bruges Zot to name a few.
You could drink one beer in here every day for a year and not have the same one.
There is a couple of other English guys in the bar that have been on Stella all night.
If you are in a bar like this don't order a beer you can get in your fucking local back home.

Ffs

Rant over, Back to the Zot. Or maybe a Bruges straffe

I am insanely jealous of you
I have heard only good things about Belgian beers. I try and have a good variety just staying in my home town; travelling to nice pubs that have different guest ales each week, but to visit Belgium and drink Stella all work....Bah!

I cannot
and mean cannot drink cloudy beer, it is wrong.

Cloudy beer means you have a horrible pint of IPA and will be spending the next 3 days renting food by the hour

Sorry

Two stellas
There's two stellas. The wife beater that you get ONLY in the UK, that's brewed to LAUGH at us, and then the honey-beer from Brouwerij Den Hoorn in Leuven. In Leuven next month, I will have stella. Then some other stuff...Duvel Groen is a hot tip as long as you don't have to work the next day. but I would never drink stella in the UK. Have they got Westvleteren there? +1 kudos if they have.

Mmm Brugse Zot, by the way. *salivates*
(, Wed 25 Feb 2009, 21:20, closed)
They
Have 400 different beers including Westvletern.
I'm on the barbar honey beer atm.

I've
been gagging to try Aventinus on draught, but have never been anywere that has sold it. Or even the fearsome Aventinus Eisbock.

Lucky bastard.
(, Wed 25 Feb 2009, 21:43, closed)
I didn't think
you could get Aventinus on draught.

The whole point of getting it from the bottle is all that yummy yummy yeasty crap. mmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... yeasty crap.
(, Wed 25 Feb 2009, 21:57, closed)
No,
you definitely get in on draught.

I had a few bottles the other night, in the proper glass, and can categorically state that it is the finest beer in the entire wuruld.

Trappist Rochefort 10 is a very close second mindye.
(, Wed 25 Feb 2009, 22:07, closed)
I 100% wholeheartedly endorse this message^
Also, I've just ordered 24 bottles of aventinus online because of you.

DAMN YOU*

*thank you

Definitely can get yeasty crap on draught
I will say with certainty that you can definitely get beers that are full of yeasty crap on draught, the bar I work in has Paulaner Hefe Weisse on draught, and also has guest Belgian wit beers. I also know of numerous other pubs and bars in Manchester that also sell German Weisse or yeasty crap on draught.

As for the Krieks, at the mo we have Mort Subite on draught, which is really nice. We also have some of the Lindemans range which I really have to say is bloody nice lambic stuff. Having never liked fruit beers before as only having the opportunity for Fruli and the Liefmans, I am a convert. My favourite is the Pecheresse, but the kriek and the framboise are bloody good too. Looking forward to the summer so I can sit in a beer garden with these beauties.

the glasses for that are pretty fun
Although it's a dangerously easy drink, particularly for someone with habits honed in the north east of england.

Piraat!

Do they have Grolsch Kanon? that's a deceptively strong beer - it's like having your spinal cord cut...and very rare outside Twente.

The other sign of a true Belgian beer bar is Scottish Beers that we've never even heard of, have thistles on the bottle and are mindblowingly strong.

Proost!

Is it
the 'Jacobite Ale', halfway down the page that you are referring to?

www.traquair.co.uk/breweryales.html

Lovely beer, very honeyed, and strong. I can normally get them in Peckhams.

Oddbins used to be great for beer, but has went seriously downhill, in fact it's been shit for years.

Re the 24 bottles of Aventinus. Where did you buy them from? I have just been browsing Beermerchant.com, looking at the Trappist Rochefort 10 ( a real bargain at £2.50) and the Liefmans Kriek. I was told the brewery had went bust, as i can't get them at all up here, only these crappy look-a-like beers called Bacchus. But they are shit, too sweet. The Liefmans has the most wonderful sharpness, what a beer. In fact up until recently i could get the Liefmans Kriek AND Framboise on draught at a pub in Glasgow. Not anymore though :(

Gordon's Scotch Ale
Was what I was referring to. As Scottish as me, I reckon.

Can you not get Mort Subite? The best BEST kriek beer is Liefmans Goudenband mixed 50/50 with Kriek - Goudenband is a heavy lambic beer without a fruit taste, and it transforms the Kriek into a skull-splitting, orgasmic beer. Tends to be expensive because Rehills tends to sell each bottle for £3, so that's £6 for a beer. But until the Westvleteren monks open a filial in the NE, that'll have to do. Oddly, our Tescos does very wel for beer, good trappist selection.
(, Thu 26 Feb 2009, 8:00, closed)
Yes,
I've tried the Goudenband, but never even considered mixing it with the Kriek. I will endeavour to put this right!
(, Thu 26 Feb 2009, 8:44, closed)
Oh god I need to go drinking with you
Assuming you're in Scotland, then Centraal Bar in Edinburgh was decent the last time I went there - is.gd/kW8V

www.beerangel.com delivers to the UK. Their English is a bit dodgy (I use the german language version 'cause that's where I am) so if you need help just gaz me!

have a kriek
for me.

PS which bar is it? I'll have to pop in on my next trip
(, Wed 25 Feb 2009, 21:58, closed)
Well here's to you!
I've just opened a Kreik and I'm going to thoroughly enjoy it.

Will you all hurt me if I say I prefer beers from South America?
not wank like Sol or Corona, but stuff like Cusquena. Tastes really interesting.

Also, Baltika, the Russian stuff. Fucking lovely, strong and comes in pint bottles.
(, Thu 26 Feb 2009, 8:23, closed)
I will hurt you
for thinking Mexico is South America.

It's not even Central America.
*hurts*
