This is a question Kids

Either you love 'em or you hate 'em. Or in the case of Fred West - both. Tell us your ankle-biter stories.

I am not a member but they argue a good case:
The Voluntary Human Extinction Movement

(The "Why breed?" table in this section is particularly informative.)

A thoroughly enjoyable read. Spread memes, not genes. Maybe.

Hmm
I wouldn't say having the human race would be a good thing myself. Certainly the world population is too much (at least in the developing world anyway) and the less people that unecessarily breed, the better. I would agree with most of the reasons in that table for never having children myself though.

I reckon the world would be better if instead of having children, everyone just lived forever. That's mainly because I want to live forever though.

I very much support this and have done so for years.
But I suspect most people will read just the title and not the whole thing, and scream about suicide cults and shit.

As long as it's voluntary...
But I think leaving the future to the less insightful seems a little bit silly.

I also think a lot of people signing up for that cause are doing it because it sounds more noble than admitting that nobody actually WANTS to reproduce with you.

Different strokes for different folks, obviously.

"it sounds more noble than admitting that nobody actually WANTS to reproduce with you"

AHAAAAAAAAA! Yeah, that's my problem, no one wants to have sex with me. It's not that I'm, say, choosy or something...

you're choosy? really?

*gets cassock*

the way i see it
if i have but one sprog then go for the silver snip award then 1 child between 2 parents is still a decrease and all is well.

not saying i will though

Except it's not a decrease,
because we don't spawn and then die like salmon. We live to see our children grow up, and likely they'll spawn too.

Interesting
And partly goes along with my own theory that that people who have kids fall into one of three categories (I've said this before):

- They really, really do want them. Fair play to those who can seriously make the commitment to bring another life into the world and be prepared for all the joy, angst and heartbreak this can bring in equal measure.

- It's expected of them by society / family and not having them makes you a bit weird.

- Too stupid to know any better. It's what you do, innit? Have kids and stuff, like.

I fall into none of these categories, but I know a few people that do.

Childless and proud, that's me.
