This is a question Why I Love/Hate Britain

This week's been all about the Daily Mail and why people love or hate their country. Tell us one thing you hate about Britain, and one thing about why you love it.

This shouldn't be an excuse for RACISTLOLS, or long lists of things you dislike. Be intelligent, be funny, and be interesting

I know it said "No lists" but since everyone else is finding a bridge to jump off...
The Goodies
Dr. Who - the old ones, mainly Tom Baker, Pertwee and some Davison & everything with Nicola Bryant.
Spooks - most of the stuff involving Harry and Grace is good.
The Young Ones
Catherine Tate Show.
The Bill.
The IT Crowd.
Gavin & Stacey.
Snuff Box.
Being Human - the proper ver.
The Office - Gareth made it cringeworthy for me. The sepo ver. with it's whole storyline and conclusion was a little bit better. (Shoot me now.)
Doc Martin.
Kenny Everett Video Show.
The Might Boosh
The Two Ronnies - it's good night from me...
Thomas The Tank Engine.
Cold Feet.
Rebus - more the Ken Stott over John Hannah.
Wire in the Blood.
Waking The Dead.

Mrs. Browns Boys - reminds me of the comedy show within a show on Extras. Dreary at best.
Little Britain - there's a few good skits in there, the rest is just padding. Same goes for the airline show they did and Big School.
Extras - gets really sad rather than cringe-worthy.
The Office - Gareth made it cringeworthy for me.
Are You Being Served.

Clearly I'm a bit of an Anglophile when it comes to sitting on my arse and staring at a TV screen.

When did you break into my house and look at my DVD collection??

(, Tue 8 Oct 2013, 11:55, closed)
You have some terrible taste in telly.

(, Tue 8 Oct 2013, 12:11, closed)
Where's your list then?

(, Tue 8 Oct 2013, 12:51, closed)
Tell you what -
Give me a list of Merkin shows that compete. In ALL categories.
Hey all we've got here apparently is Neighbours, Home & Away and Play School.
(, Tue 8 Oct 2013, 12:58, closed)
I'll do one, as I'm not about to do a list of things I've watched.
CSI, as it's a convenient counterpart to Waking The Dead. Both are the same concept, but one is a po-faced slog, paced needlessly slow in order to pad out several hours, whilst the other is breezy fluff that lasts under 45 minutes.

Not sure why I have to champion US telly, the thing I've most enjoyed watching recently was Utopia. I took issue with your list because the likes of Spooks, Waking The Dead, and Doc Martin are spectacularly shit.

Like a moth to a flame
Which Baker?

And who the fuck is Davidson?!

I'm sorry I'm so so sorry.

[Of course, the Doctor is real and these are just actors portraying him, just so you know I am not going mad.]
(, Tue 8 Oct 2013, 22:40, closed)
& sorry I meant Peter Davison.
(, Tue 8 Oct 2013, 23:39, closed)
I'm about 90% on board with that list
I don't get Catherine Tate, sorry
(, Wed 9 Oct 2013, 0:51, closed)
I'm on board with this
Englishman telly is their best export (apart from Australian's). Sort of makes you want to stop giggling behind your hand at their antiquated TV license stuff.

I wonder what that interwebs stalking pedo rapist "Albert Boiled Lollies For the Children" will do with this. You might have bested him with this lot.

I think he's too busy hanging
out with all his new friends. ;]

We're having this MASSIVE party and YOU'RE not invited.

Oh man, you'll be well jel you missed this.
(, Wed 9 Oct 2013, 14:14, closed)
I know your Mum said it was
but, wanking by yourself in the corner to hacked facebook sites does not add up to a party.

if it makes feel any better
Mrs Browns boys isn't really british
(, Wed 9 Oct 2013, 11:23, closed)

british remotely funny
(, Wed 9 Oct 2013, 12:45, closed)
No Blackadder? No Monty Python? No Fawlty Towers? No Father Ted?...

For shame :(

Hmm, after considering that all the above shows finished years ago and I couldn't really think of any decent examples created in the last decade (Except 'The IT Crowd' and you mentioned that...and even that's finished now) I'm now a tad depressed.

Black Books was very good (well, the first series, it was passable after that).
Maybe we should just compile a list of Things Graham Linehan Has Been Involved In, and call it a day?
(, Wed 9 Oct 2013, 12:05, closed)
Ooh I've never seen 'Black Books'...

I will download some episodes forthwith. Thank you.
(, Wed 9 Oct 2013, 12:35, closed)
The Big Lock Out
is especially amusing.
