This is a question Mix Tapes

Everyone's made a mix tape (or CD, USB stick, or whatever kids do these days). Mostly to get in someone else's pants, but we're sure there are other, lesser, reasons too.

So, who did you make it for and why?
And... what was on it?

What's that coming over the hill, is it a monster? / The perils of drink.
Just under a year ago we had a funeral for my wife's cousin.

He was 29

Drink killed him, far too much of it for a long time.

The song we played as we went into the crem was the one in the title of this post, as this is what he used to sing to his kid sister, but replacing monster with her name.

Watching his mum and sister break down as the opening bars played out was one of the most horrible moments of my life, and one that I never want to be repeated. Everyone, even his well 'ard mates were sobbing.

Every time I hear that song it takes me back to that funeral, and I suppose that is the kind of emotion you want to convey in a mix tape.

No it's not on topic, but I don't care, I wanted to share.

Aw...
That's the first proper cd my 7 year old nephew got. He loves that song.

Thanks for sharing.

I had a similar experience
a friend of mine, Jon, passed away some time ago.

Misadventure really, he was drunk, had a badly broken arm from a previous accident and decided to climb over the back fence of his house rather than walk around...

He and I used to listen to War of the Worlds quite a bit, and one of the songs played at his funeral was Forever Autumn by Justin Hayward from said musical.

Moved me to tears then and on several occasions since.

On the subject of funeral songs...
The ex-mother in law succumbed to nasty secondary breast cancer a few years back. Once she knew that there wasn't any chance of recovery, she told us that she didn't want a miserable funeral, and wanted people to laugh and remember the person she was. And she desparately wanted something appropriate musically as her coffin was sliding into the furnace. After much discussion on this subject, we all agreed that there was only one choice (I did think she was going to expire there and then from laughing so hard).

And so, when the day came, and she slid towards the flames in her wooden box, she was accompanied by her favourite artist, Elvis, singing 'Return to Sender'...

Bless her and rest in peace. Lovely woman.

My cousin
commited suicide 4 years ago when he was only 20. 10 minutes before the funeral, "leave right now" by Will young came on the radio and now that horrible gobshite reminds me of my cousin. Also, I was one of the cord bearers, I helped lower his coffin into his grave. I got back into the car after, barely holding myself together, and Busted's "sleeping with the light on" came on...... "slippin' through my fingers..." I still think that was him, that was just his sense of humour.

Even worse when it's self inflicted
feels so much more of a waste.

What was the sister's name?
I'm assuming "Amanda", but if it was Jill, that'd be pretty weird.
