This is a question More Fire!

It's nearly ten YEARS since we last asked a question about fires.

Channel your inner neanderthal and tell us about fires, mostly to shut up that smug fucker that's made an oh-so-clever "wheel".

A cigarette dropped into petrol will not cause a fire.
I have tried it and it doesn't work -- not with a shallow spill nor a bucket of petrol. In fact petrol is a lot harder to set fire to than any film or petrol station notice would lead you to believe.
Similarly, cars are fairly hard to set on fire.

That might be something to do with the fact that it's the petrol gas that ignites.

I agree
I'm one of those guys people tend to ask to look at things. I've seen several cars with fuel leaks spraying petrol around inside the engine bay ( !! ) and not one of them had combusted

Just don't inspect it with a lighter...

Not only does jet fuel not ignite if you drop a lit Zippo into it,
but it turns out that you can't just arm yourself to the teeth and single-handedly overthrow the dictator of a small, South American country.

Really, it's shocking, the way films have lied to me.

Are you trying to tell me that cars don't just explode when you shoot them?

Are you trying to tell me that all high school children aren't professional singers and dancers?

Why isn't nylon banned?
An ignition spark is more likely from a static discharge from some naff nylon clothing.

So many stupid rules around. Mobile phones also cannot blow up a petrol station, yet these are banned too in the UK.

Mobile phones are banned in the UK?
How come Carphone Warehouse are still trading, then?
(, Sun 1 Feb 2015, 20:41, closed)
i heard that was because it used to be possible to re-set the pump back to zero with a mobile phone transmission thereby nicking off with a full tank
but this might be internet bollocks, i've never bothered to check.
