This is a question How nerdy are you?

This week Gary Gygax, co-creator of Dungeons and Dragons, died. A whole generation of pasty dice-obsessed nerds owes him big time. Me included.

So, in his honour, how nerdy were you? Are you still sunlight-averse? What are the sad little things you do that nobody else understands?

As an example, a B3ta regular who shall remain nameless told us, "I spent an entire school summer holiday getting my BBC Model B computer to produce filthy stories from an extensive database of names, nouns, adjectives, stock phrases and deviant sexual practices. It revolutionised the porn magazine dirty letter writing industry for ever.

Revel in your own nerdiness.

Computers
are dull. Stories about them, especially when constructed almost exclusively in technical jargonry, are beyond boring. Please, enough...

You get the point of QOTW, don't you?

(, Mon 10 Mar 2008, 13:29, closed)
I agree
everyone complained about the other QOTWs, but this is without doubt the dullest *ever*. Lists of programming langauges, consoles and role-playing games is agony.
(, Mon 10 Mar 2008, 13:58, closed)
However...
...the 21 pages of replies seems to suggest otherwise.

You can always
simply not look.

Worst. QOTW. Ever.
.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Your post was soooooo funny

no...wait?!?
(, Mon 10 Mar 2008, 14:32, closed)
I'm not sure
that specialbrew isn't taking the piss, if only because the phrase "Worst. QOTW. Ever." - replete with many full stops - is best voiced by Comic Book Guy out of the Simpsons, the nerds' nerd.

21 pages speaks volumes about the b3ta readership, don't you think?

A forum largely made up of nerds
Who are enjoying talking about nerdy things? How very, very shocking.

More like Jenny moronic
Seriously you QOTW exclusive people really are the saddest bunch of fucktards to ever grace b3ta
(, Mon 10 Mar 2008, 15:49, closed)
I'm not trying to be funny
or indeed rude, really, it's just that computer-nerd stuff is extremely exclusive, more so than other types of nerdery which are probably going to make for more interesting/accessible anecdotes. K?
(, Mon 10 Mar 2008, 15:50, closed)
Since when was b3ta all-inclusive?
Get over yourself.
(, Mon 10 Mar 2008, 16:17, closed)
Hmm.
In the time you've spent complaining you could have read the first 2 pages of a coding manual, attempted something, made a funny error and posted that on her and recieved kudos for it.

Now you have insulted the very people who can inflict the cyber equivelant of black death on your computer.

*Slow, poorly aimed clapping*
(, Mon 10 Mar 2008, 16:22, closed)
...
Oh, feel free. I hope it makes you feel powerful and somehow important. And actually, I've always felt that b3ta was inclusive, the kind of place one could voice a (fairly non-aggressive, unlike some of these replies) opinion without fear of getting slated by some bizarre reverse-nerdery backlash. I obviously made an error there.
(, Mon 10 Mar 2008, 16:37, closed)
I have to say
That the computer related posts are somewhat lost on me. So I tend to ignore them (no offence to anyone posting these meant, BTW). I can use one (obviously), but as far as programming the fuckers or understanding the inner workings goes... Nah.
(, Mon 10 Mar 2008, 16:49, closed)
I don't completely understand the computer posts either.
But that's why I have Google at my disposal, if I get curious enough.

b3ta is a pretty inclusive place as a rule, but sometimes you have to work at it. Took me ages to learn the slang used on here, but urbandictionary.com and other sites that Google popped up helped.

And if you don't feel like working that hard to understand the posts- well, you can't blame us, knowwhatimean?

Cthlulhu ftaghn.
(, Mon 10 Mar 2008, 19:03, closed)
there are
quite a few non-computer related posts this week.
(, Tue 11 Mar 2008, 1:24, closed)
If I had the time...
I'd possibly do the research. I just don't have the time at the moment...

But that's what I like about B3ta - something for everyone...
(, Tue 11 Mar 2008, 12:14, closed)
RIS.....
Anyway, IMHO this QOTW has got B3TA back on track, after the mess that was the mix tapes one only salvaged by A Bean Countin' Mans life story.

A few other crappy ones and now one that will hit two dozen pages.
(, Tue 11 Mar 2008, 23:28, closed)
Meh
Agreed on the dull point.

The point in the QOTW is hearing funny tales and amusing stories, which lists of all the computers you have owned or your love of warhammer aren't

The death QOTW may have been fairly depressing, but there were still more funny and interesting stories than there are here (admittedly mainly from those who chose to celebrate the life rather than the death of someone)

Quick!
Let's only post QOTWs that Jenny likes!
