Finally got home just before 5am, achieved a certain amount of something that passed for sleep.
Dragged self out of bed a little after 11 with thick head, ate some food. Watched the Dr Who christmas special on the iPlayer and was disappointed. Had a stroll in the park before it started raining, ate some more food. Plugged microphones in and recorded a bit of acoustic blues.

Thinking about it, I'm really not sure where the time's gone...

Crow I neeeed some cables, where do you buy cables?

(, Sat 1 Jan 2011, 23:08, Reply)
Cable shop, silly.
What sort of cables are you after?
(, Sat 1 Jan 2011, 23:13, Reply)
Why would I go to a shop when I can buy whatever I want from the comfort of my computer?
Dual mono large jack to single stereo small jack 2m x 2
Stereo small jack to stereo small jack 2m
Stereo small jack to stereo small jack 5m
(, Sat 1 Jan 2011, 23:14, Reply)
A fair point.
Though I must admit I usually go to the PA/recording shop on Denmark Street for cables. Not that the ones you're after are particularly unusual - who do you normally buy them from?
(, Sat 1 Jan 2011, 23:18, Reply)
I got given loads a few years back when my collaborator upped and moved to China
I "accidentally" got one of my "Don't bodge with this cable" cables and bodged it with another cable, and although I can play music in my room on my fucking lovely Monitors I now have no audio from my mixer to my monitors at my desk. Doh. Cracking bodge though.
(, Sat 1 Jan 2011, 23:22, Reply)
I take it a counterbodge is not an option then?
Or possibly even a fresh bodge? If you're anything like me then you'll have a drawer containing a tangled-up bundle of assorted cables that have been kept "just in case" I found use for them...
(, Sat 1 Jan 2011, 23:28, Reply)
It's been considered but the solution I have for my room is quite elegant and if I unbodge it I'll still need a cable for it.
I'll scour the internet at work on Monday.

then i went back to sleep and dreamt a very elaborate dream about two games playing at once - somewhere between larp and a party game and actual peril. I think I was doing a rules check with a ref when I woke up.

I think camp beds don't help me get a proper night's sleep

Lost on me, I'm afraid
But then, so is Dr Who. And most popular culture, to be honest.
(, Sat 1 Jan 2011, 23:40, Reply)
It was quite funny
But just too sentimental. Perhaps I just like the 'old school' Dr Who stories too much, but I don't think Dr Who should be that sentimental!
(, Sat 1 Jan 2011, 23:14, Reply)
this

Quite.
What better christmas present could we have had than some sort of contrived scene featuring Karen Gillan and Katherine Jenkins getting it on?

NEEDS MORE ROBOTS

(, Sat 1 Jan 2011, 23:17, Reply)
YES
this is exactly what it needs

I like that they are playing with ideas of time travel a lot at the mo, but I am obssessed with time travel
(, Sat 1 Jan 2011, 23:18, Reply)
It was pretty tedious for the first fifteen minutes but then he jumped into the tardis and appeared in the past and I was reminded of that bit in Bill and Ted when they go into the future and meet like the council members of the future and they go
"Be excellent to each other" and then it was fine and she started singing to that fish.
(, Sat 1 Jan 2011, 23:20, Reply)
but bill and ted is an excellent
exploration of time travel, equalled only by the Back to the Future trilogy

/only mostly joking...bloody love those films
(, Sat 1 Jan 2011, 23:22, Reply)
I do too, I still say "Dude" far too often and I think "Station!" whenever I see the word on a sign.

(, Sat 1 Jan 2011, 23:26, Reply)
*air guitars*

(, Sat 1 Jan 2011, 23:26, Reply)
I haven't seen it
But I bet it's less sentimental than it would have been if russell t davies ice written it..
(, Sat 1 Jan 2011, 23:18, Reply)
This is true. And it was also much less gay and Welsh than it would have been under Russell "Look how gay and Welsh I am" Davies.
I expected better though.
(, Sat 1 Jan 2011, 23:20, Reply)
It didn't help that Gold or watch or whatever it's called
was playing the library story at about the same time. Just to remind us what Stephen Moffat is really capable of.

However, bonus points for the first 'companions in post-coital shock' since Ian and Barbara in The Romans.

(, Sat 1 Jan 2011, 23:23, Reply)
What annoys me is that Amy's backstory is a rip-off of Sally Sparrow and the French chick from the Lady in the Fireplace
can't he be ORIGINAL the whole time?!

Also, cannot WAIT for episode 3. It's written by my favourite writer of ALL TIME.
(, Sat 1 Jan 2011, 23:26, Reply)
is that the Neil Gaiman one?

(, Sat 1 Jan 2011, 23:27, Reply)

*excited*
when is the new series starting, anyway?
(, Sat 1 Jan 2011, 23:30, Reply)
I'm not entirely sure

(, Sat 1 Jan 2011, 23:32, Reply)
Be careful with those expectations
I assumed that Mark Gatiss would be capable of writing a good episode, and it just turned out to be rather silly.
(, Sat 1 Jan 2011, 23:30, Reply)
I guess, he was responsible for the film adaption of Beowulf, which despite not having seen it, apparently was tosh
but his short film staring Bill Nighy and his now-wife Amanda Palmer as a living statue was excellent.

I will forgive him anything, as he has written one of my favourite books of all time.
(, Sat 1 Jan 2011, 23:32, Reply)
I'm gonna guess...American Gods?

(, Sat 1 Jan 2011, 23:33, Reply)
The final battle is over, the main bits have been "laid to rest"
but WAIT there's around 50 pages. What could be left to wrap up?

...what? A throwaway line in the grand finale? Links back into a bit character we meet who we assume is just setting the scene? A hundred year mystery solved?
HOLY SHIT SHADOW SHIT IS GOING DOWN
(, Sat 1 Jan 2011, 23:35, Reply)
I think the only one of his I've read was that one he did with Pratchett
To be honest, I'm more of a SF telly person than a proper SF book-readin' type.

For example, if they made films or TV series of the Greg Bear Eon/Eternity books, I would probably like them a damn sight more than the books, which I found a bit confusing - though rather fab as concepts.
(, Sat 1 Jan 2011, 23:37, Reply)
Good Omens is ok
Neverwhere is fucking awesome for a TV show tie in.

Actually, Crow, this supports my argument that his Dr Who episode will be great. His previous forays into sci-fi TV were excellent. Well, probably more fantasy than sci-fi.
(, Sat 1 Jan 2011, 23:40, Reply)
Not a fan of Greg Bear
He's a bit pedantic, I found.

Richard Morgan, Altered Carbon or Market Forces. Way more fun
(, Sat 1 Jan 2011, 23:40, Reply)
to be fair, even though I've loved the last three actors' portrayals
I knew the whole concept of bringing the show back would turn out to be shit.

I think we just have to embrace our 'own' doctors, and accept that the new ones belong to the kids, not to us.

Think of it as growing up. It sucks.
(, Sat 1 Jan 2011, 23:31, Reply)
I've loved almost all of the new dr who episodes to varying degrees
I am both easily pleased and refuse to grow up
(, Sat 1 Jan 2011, 23:32, Reply)
well, ^this
but you can't have it both ways. It's either a pile of entertaining pap, or not as good as it used to be.
