Tech Help Please...
Calling all gamers - (or 'Gay-mers' as Monty called them).
The kids had a DS lite (now broken) with a couple of R4 cards containing 40 games on each. I am getting them a Dsi and have been told that the R4 card will not work on it. How do I overcome this problem?
T'interwebs says there are R4i cards and they can be transferred but it is not clear on where to get them and the transferal process involved.
Any help much appreciated.
Tuggers.
Edit - and if anyone knows where is best/cheapest to buy DSi...

Get the kids another DS lite
Then everything will work.

Then send back the broken one and say 'it arrived like that' and get a refund.

ooo, sneaky!
Though I think that might technically be considered 'fraud'.

Aye. It is that.
But Tuggers is looking for a bargain, and there is nothing like 'free' for value.

'Free' is such a beautiful thing and I like your thinking.

Plus they check serial numbers.
And it is battered, covered in stickers, jam and god knows what else.
And they really want a DSi with the camera.

Well tell 'em to wait until they have a birthday or they'll have to save up for it.
Kids these days.

Tsk.

to be honest, the camera was the least of the selling points for me
I mean, I have a camera. Why would I need the shitty camera that comes with the DSi? It's not like you can print them out or anything.
If they can hang on, I would wait till March when the 3DS comes out. It will supercede the DSi, which will then drop in price the way that the DSL did when the DSi was released.

If they can't wait that long, buy a cheap DSL from Game or Gamestation, which you can trade in later when you do upgrade.

I agree the camera is probably shite...
...but the kids want to have it to share pictures with their friends. (and Pete Townsend)

For book research purposes only of course

When I upgraded I found the problem wasn't with the card (I was using an M3)
but with the games. The newer games were using much better DRM protection, and games would either not work or crash after two minutes.

I swapped my card for an AceKard 2 and haven't had any problems with the DSi (which itself has now been upgraded to an XL - go, me!).

Alternatively, I would suggest going to the R4 website and finding a firmware update. If they are the ones telling you to get the next card up, then ask around on gamers' forums. Someone, somewhere, will have cracked the problem.

Having said that, I had to admit defeat before xmas and bought (well, got mr b3th to buy for my birthday) four actual games that I needed to play but couldn't get working. As these are the only genuine games I've bought in three years, I don't mind the expense...

four actual games that I needed to play
How, exactly did you NEED to play these games?
(, Fri 4 Feb 2011, 10:37, Reply)
If you don't understand
I'm not telling you.

*Expects this to remain a mystery*

as will many of the ways of women, Jeff
I bet you understand why my dog needs to play with squeaky toys though, right?

Definitely
wait for the 3DS. Much improved screen resolution AND a 3D camera built in. The kids have a CycloDS, that has performed really well up until now, I hope it works with the 3DS, but I doubt it.
