It's been going on for months now that thing, at least, according to io9.
Maybe it's aliens that have done something to inspire the people of the middle east to rise up. Isn't there something in some prophacy or biblical thing about 100 years of war followed by [ever lasting piece OR the end of mankind.... can't remember] ? Maybe that's happening.
