Mornin'
I'm putting off applying for a job, because I know that I'm highly unlikely to get it, but on the off chance that I do it'd be a MASSIVE upheaval.
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:27, 4 replies, latest was 15 years ago)
I wouldn't bother mate
They're due a fuck-off earthquake, you know
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:28, Reply)
So I understand
But that hadn't even occurred to me, more the visa hell and huge financial issues involved with moving to SF.
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:30, Reply)
the question is
do you want to do it? If you do, screw all teh tricky things and do it anyway. Hard things are worth doing. And yes I am also thinking about cocks
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:31, Reply)
I'd love to live in San Francisco
The company website and blurb doesn't look perfect though, plus they're after some skills I'm not particularly versed in.
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:34, Reply)
you could learn the bits you don't know
apply anyway, you don't even have to accept if they offer it to you
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:35, Reply)
I actually think you should absolutely go for it mate
How often will something like this come along?
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:36, Reply)
You're just angling for a visit aren't you?

(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:39, Reply)
This is true
Plus with my accent I'm guaranteed to have swathes of hot Californian ladies demanding my stiff upper lip on their land of hope and glory.
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:39, Reply)
The Yanks do fucking love an English accent
I'm going to assume you haven't got a hideous Brummie drawl. Love the terminology, by the way
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:42, Reply)
fortunately Lab sounds like a normal person

(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:43, Reply)
Shame that if you went to SF
you'd be running the Jack up their flagpoles...
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:44, Reply)
I have a generic English accent with no hint of what class or location I hail from
And thanks!
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:44, Reply)
The accent is
the Warwickshire way!
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:46, Reply)
Damn right!

(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:47, Reply)
That's a fucking relief mate
CombiChrist will need to be fucking loud otherwise ;-)
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:47, Reply)
Hahaha!
I have a feeling they'll be fucking loud anyway ;)
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:48, Reply)
That's the rumour
It's only two months away now. This is a fucking brilliant thing to have just realised
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:52, Reply)
Indeed it is!

(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:56, Reply)
Fuck, you're going to get to see some epic gigs if you move to America
Last time CC toured there they had Aesthetic Perfection supporting. SUPPORTING. I was almost tempted to get the credit card to work on it
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 11:04, Reply)
Are they taking applicants from outside US?
and is it a specialist role that you're confident a non-US resident is the only person that can do it?

If not, don't bother, the H1B system is still recovering from the terrifying raping that the Bush administration gave it. Astoundingly difficult for a company to get one for a new employee.
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:52, Reply)
The listing was on a website, and wasn't specific about International applicants
I'd say it's a fairly specialist role, the industry isn't that large. All things to take into consideration though, so thank you for your 2 cents.
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:56, Reply)
not trying to put you off
I've no real idea how specialist what you do is, so you might have no problems. The issue has been (historically over the last 10 years or so) that a really high proportion of H1Bs go to programmers from the Indian subcontinent who are highly skilled but will work for half the salary of US programmers. At last count there were only about 50,000 to 100,000 H1Bs available per year. Unless Obama has repealed that particular restriction.
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 11:08, Reply)
Not wishing to undermine or devalue your excellent advice
But "terrifying raping" gave me this morning's biggest officelol to date, and I thought you should be told.
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:57, Reply)
where would it be, on the moon?

(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:30, Reply)

Chock full of bummers, mind.

Spent an evening there a few years back and loved it.
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:36, Reply)
Loads to do.
Wine country, Pacific Ocean, SoCal, Washington State, Californian women.

You could do a lot worse.
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:38, Reply)
You are forgetting a major drawback, though:

I'm good ta
great weekend. Have come to a definite tattoo conclusion over the last couple of days, so subject to finding somewhere appropriate I reckon I'll go and get it in July.
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:38, Reply)
Good man! What have you settled on?
I'm getting another next month at the Liverpool Tattoo Convention.
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:40, Reply)

www.b3tards.com/u/48ca4e4a50b7cad28251/2753718091_7f53ef68e4.jpg

but shape is slightly different, and it'll be plain black, not blue and flamy
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:42, Reply)
I remember this
From a book, no? And whereabouts on your body?
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:43, Reply)
yeah
front of the left shoulder, sort of just under the end of the collarbone
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:44, Reply)
Sweet!
I bet it'll look great dude. I'm getting a handpoked one started on the tops of both feet.
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:46, Reply)
ooof, painful no?

(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:46, Reply)
More than normal, yes
Apparently handpoked tatts don't swell up as bad, which is a relief as I'll be driving to and from Liverpool.
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:49, Reply)
could be nasty otherwise

(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:49, Reply)
I'll just have to drive extra fast
So I get home before I have an accident.
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:50, Reply)
that's the sort of thinking that made this country great

(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:51, Reply)
Garth Nix books?

(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:45, Reply)
yeah
I find the idea appealing, and if I get the urge to get more I can use more of the symbols
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:46, Reply)
I've not read those
I thought they were just kids books that were a bit better than average. Have I missed something important?
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:47, Reply)
I wouldn't say it they are important by any means.
being a kids book doesn't necessarily mean it isn't worth reading.
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:49, Reply)
i didn't mean kids books aren't worth reading
but there is a habit of kids fantasy books to look OK, but be a bit meh...I need convincing before I'll read them
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:53, Reply)
fair enough
they are certainly better than most kids fantasy I'd say. Not as good as say The Hobbit though.
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:55, Reply)
You're not going for that '/Off Topic' monogram are you?
Please say no.
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:41, Reply)
heh
you spastic
(, Wed 27 Apr 2011, 10:43, Reply)
You and me both, old chap
I've realised that I've become very good at searching and browsing job websites, and occasionally looking at the half-finished version of my CV, before I get to the end of the day and realise I've not actually applied for anything.
