Yup, I did exactly this at All Tomorrow's Parties in 2004 - Sonic Youth were headlining. I love Sonic Youth and had never seen them before. I know I was there, I'm told they played what was essentially a greatest hits set, unfortunately I have no memory of it whatsoever.

You'd think I would learn, but the following night when Stephen Malkmus played I greedily scoffed down a load of hash cake my friend had brought along, then proceeded to have a lovely sleep on the floor at the back of the room. During this delicious sleep I dreamed that Malkmus covered the Velvet Underground song All Tomorrow's Parties. Apparently this wasn't a dream...
